Myrtle Beach Golf Scene Gets a Major Makeover

Hey there, Myrtle Beach! If you love hitting the green, you’re in for some exciting news! The Myrtlewood Golf Club’s PineHills Course has undergone an impressive transformation, and golfers are buzzing about the newly rebuilt fairway bunker on the 16th hole. This project, which kicked off in May 2024, is part of a series of renovations happening across the Myrtle Beach golf scene.

Big Changes, No Closed Courses

What’s even better? This renovation didn’t mean closing the entire course down. Nope! While the dirt was flying and the construction crew was hard at work, golfers could still enjoy their rounds without a hitch. Just imagine that—you’re out there teeing off, and it’s business as usual, while the magic is happening behind the scenes. Talk about a win-win!

Alongside Myrtlewood’s PineHills Course, several other local courses like Tidewater Golf Club, Prestwick Country Club, Brunswick Plantation, and Legends Golf Resort are also getting some love with renovations underway. It seems like the Myrtle Beach market is stepping up its game, making sure everyone has an enjoyable and visually stunning experience when they play football.

Bunker Makeover Mastermind

So, who’s the genius behind this fancy fairway bunker rebuild? Well, it’s none other than course architect Dan Schlegel. He’s pretty much a legend in this neck of the woods. Schlegel isn’t new to Myrtlewood—he worked on the Palmetto Course during some bunker renovations back in 2019. With the PineHills Course, he’s taken on the monumental task of redesigning and rebuilding *every single bunker* on the course. Talk about an overhaul!

What does this mean for players? A fresh visual look and improved bunker conditions that make the game even more enjoyable. “We had such a good experience with him on the Palmetto, we brought him back in for the PineHills renovations,” said Steve Mays, the president of Founders Group International, which operates 21 golf courses along the Grand Strand. Mays knows what’s up, and it’s clear they’re all in for a treat on the greens!

Why This Matters

If you’re wondering why these renovations are a big deal, look no further than the experience on the course itself. The new bunkers not only enhance the aesthetics of the PineHills Course, but they also challenge golfers’ skills in new ways. For the weekend warrior or the more seasoned pro, improved bunker conditions can make all the difference in that *crucial* sand save. Or, you know, at least provide a little less frustration when trying to escape!

As these changes unfold, the Myrtle Beach golf community continues to thrive, and it’s clear that everyone from course operators to golfers are all in this together. The buzz surrounding the updates has golfers excited about what’s to come, especially as the golf season heats up.

Get Ready to Play!

With all these renovations, Myrtle Beach is ready to charm and challenge golf lovers in new and exciting ways. So why not grab your clubs, hit the course, and be part of the buzz? Whether you’re taking a swing at the rebuilt bunkers on the 16th hole of Myrtlewood’s PineHills Course or teeing off at one of the other revitalized courses in town, there’s never been a more thrilling time to be a golfer in Myrtle Beach!

Stay tuned for more updates on the Myrtle Beach golf scene—we’ll keep you in the loop as more renovations and events roll out. Happy golfing!
