A rare winter scene at Myrtle Beach golf courses as they are blanketed in snow.
Myrtle Beach is facing an unusual winter blizzard that has led to temporary closures of all local golf courses. With up to 6 inches of snow covering the fairways, golf enthusiasts must wait until course operations resume, expected by Monday. Some courses like Tidewater Golf Club and Azalea Sands Golf Club may reopen as early as Sunday. Operators are taking proactive measures to protect greens from tumultuous weather, ensuring they remain healthy for the busy spring season ahead. Golfers are encouraged to stay updated on reopening plans as conditions evolve.
The beautiful Myrtle Beach golf scene is experiencing an unexpected winter chill! On January 23, 2025, locals woke up to find the driving range at Barefoot Resort basking under a blanket of white snow. Yes, you read that right! Snow in Myrtle Beach is quite rare, but this winter storm has temporarily paused our beloved sport.
Sadly, all golf courses in the area are down for the count right now. With temperatures dipping below the freezing mark and the forecast promising snow, many courses made the decision to close starting on Monday. This proactive approach aims to protect the delicate greens from the bitter cold and the impending snowfall. Fast forward to Wednesday morning, and there was an impressive accumulation of up to 6 inches of snow blanketing the fairways!
Golfers might have to put their clubs away for a bit longer as most courses are expected to keep their doors shut until at least Monday. However, there’s a silver lining! Some courses might just make a comeback this Sunday!
If you’ve been itching to swing your clubs, some fantastic options are on the horizon. Courses that are planning to welcome back golfers on Sunday include:
This isn’t the first time this month that players have faced closures due to Mother Nature being a bit cold-hearted. Many of these courses have had to shut down before, making it a challenging January for avid golfers around the region.
For the past several weeks, temperatures have been consistently hovering around or even dipping below 32 degrees Fahrenheit at night. To combat such challenges, many golf course operators have been investing in green covers since 2018. These covers are essential for preventing winterkill, allowing greens to remain healthy as they brace for the busy spring golfing season.
Looking ahead, Barefoot Resort’s four renowned courses—Love, Norman, Fazio, and Dye—are slated to reopen this coming Monday. Meanwhile, Sea Trail Resort’s courses are also joining the reopening parade on Monday, along with its clubhouse operations. And don’t forget about Legends Resort! The Heathland Course is gearing up to reopen on Sunday, while the Moorland and Parkland courses will follow suit on Monday.
Founders Group International is optimistic, aiming to reopen all 21 of its courses on Monday, while Ocean Ridge Plantation and Mystical Golf are making their plans to get back in action as well. With a variety of reopening plans in the mix, it’s essential to stay tuned as conditions are constantly being monitored, and opening dates could change based on the ever-evolving weather.
Despite the excitement for reopening, the driving ranges at several facilities will remain closed at least through Monday. As courses prepare for their reopening, some may also be adjusting tee placements to make everything perfect for golfers.
As always, golf enthusiasts are reminded to stay updated as these situations on the courses evolve. Until the greens are back in action, stay cozy, keep practicing your swing indoors, and get ready to hit the links once the snow melts away!
