Sponsor Our ArticlesIn disappointing news for treasure hunters, Myrtle Beach has canceled the South Carolina’s Largest Garage Sale for 2025 due to scheduling conflicts at the convention center. The popular event, which began in 1988 and traditionally attracts over 10,000 attendees, will take a break this year. City officials hope to bring it back in 2026, depending on venue availability. Community members will miss the event, but there’s optimism for future gatherings and local sales.
In a bit of disappointing news for bargain hunters and treasure seekers, the City of Myrtle Beach has announced that South Carolina’s Largest Garage Sale will not make its much-anticipated return in 2025. This beloved community event, which has been a local staple since its inception in 1988, is taking a break this year due to some unavoidable scheduling conflicts.
The Myrtle Beach Convention Center, which has been the home of the garage sale for the last few years, is fully booked for the entire calendar year. Because of this packed schedule, the city has made the tough decision not to look for an alternative venue for the garage sale this time around. Community members who have enjoyed rummaging through mountains of goods in previous years will have to sit this one out.
The garage sale has become something of a rite of spring for local residents and visitors alike. Traditionally attracting over 10,000 people, it offers more than 100,000 square feet of goods, giving everyone from families to vintage enthusiasts the chance to find that hidden gem. Just imagine the thrill of unearthing a wonderful vintage piece or a collectible sports item among the myriad clothes, jewelry, and household items!
The garage sale started off in the Pavilion Parking Garage before moving to the larger convention center, making it easier for everyone to attend. The larger space has helped to accommodate the growing number of vendors eager to set up shop, who often snap up their booths as early as July!
Although 2025 won’t see the garage sale return, there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon. City officials have hinted that the garage sale might come back in 2026, but this will depend entirely on the availability of the convention center. That leaves many hoping for an open weekend in the not-so-distant future.
Not only do locals flock to this event, but it also draws in some visitors from places well outside of South Carolina. On average, attendees are around 46 years old, striking a balance between younger bargain shoppers and seasoned treasure hunters. The vibe at the garage sale is always lively, with families and groups of friends eagerly chatting about the amazing finds as they navigate through the aisles.
As sad as it may be to miss out on this year’s event, the sense of community fostered by the garage sale remains strong. Participants often enjoy the thrill of not just buying but also engaging with one another, trading stories, tips on the best spots to find bargains, and maybe even sharing a laugh over a quirky item. For those with questions or concerns regarding the cancellation, the city’s Communications Division is just a phone call away – their number is 843-918-1054.
As we look ahead, let’s keep our fingers crossed that this beloved community event can make a grand comeback in 2026. In the meantime, perhaps those passionate about garage sales can turn their eyes toward other local events or even consider hosting their very own mini sales at home. Who knows? The next big treasure might just be waiting in your attic!
So, until next time, keep your eyes peeled for those hidden treasures, Myrtle Beach! The garage sale may be gone this year, but the thrill of the hunt never fades.
