Well, folks, we have some bittersweet news coming out of our beautiful Myrtle Beach. The Funplex, that charming little amusement park that opened just over three years ago on Ocean Boulevard, has closed its doors for good. It’s a bummer, isn’t it?
Let’s take a trip down memory lane. Funplex opened its doors back in May of 2021 and quickly became a hot spot for locals and visitors alike. With its thrilling rides like the free fall ride, rotating “tower planes” ride, and a fun roller coaster, the park was a delightful addition to our beloved beachside atmosphere.
The park sat on just 0.41 acres of prime Myrtle Beach real estate, right between 14th and 15th avenues. According to land records, the parcel was bought for a whopping $11.9 million back in 2019. Must have been a thrill to see the grand opening, with laughter and shouts of excitement from families enjoying their fun-filled day out.
Fast forward to today, and the website for Funplex is confirming the sad news: the Myrtle Beach location has officially closed. “We are incredibly proud of the community we have built together and the countless smiles we have shared,” they wrote on their website. It’s clear they genuinely cherished the time they spent with us.
The good news is that Funplex still has two other locations up and running in New Jersey, so those Jersey folks can continue to enjoy their moments of joy! But here in Myrtle Beach, the news is a little heavy for everyone who made memories at the park.
Not only will we miss the rides, but it also played a big role in creating a sense of community. From birthday parties to casual family outings, it was a delightful way for us to connect. The whirring sounds of rides and happy screams were a constant part of the summer vibe around here.
With more and more attractions being added to the area, it’s a shame we lose one that brought so much joy in such a short time. But Myrtle Beach is resilient. We know more adventures await us; we just have to figure out what that looks like moving forward.
It’s perfectly normal to feel a bit nostalgic or even sad about this closure. Each of us has our own stories to share. Have you taken your kids there? Remember running from ride to ride without a single care in the world? The memories we made matter, and so does the sense of happiness that fun parks bring into our lives.
So, Myrtle Beach, as we take a moment to part with Funplex, let’s keep our spirit alive. Whether it’s finding a new favorite spot to hang out with friends or discovering new forms of entertainment, let’s continue to make the most of our beautiful beach town. Who knows what exciting adventures lie just beyond the horizon?
For now, let’s celebrate the memories we made and keep that Myrtle Beach charm alive. Here’s to whatever adventure awaits us next!
