For the first time in nearly two decades, our beloved Myrtle Beach Fire Department is set to get a shiny new fire station. Can you believe it’s been since 2005 since they built one? Out with the Old, In with the New

Captain Jon Evans, representing the fire department, shared some insights about the current situation. The old Fire Station 3 was “busting at the seams” according to him, which basically means they’ve been working in cramped quarters for way too long. Captain Evans said, “These guys and girls down here have been so crammed in the space they’ve had and they’ve had to make do with just, ‘here’s the building, make it work how you can.’” It sounds like they’ve been playing a game of Tetris with their workspace!

Well, hold on to your hats because help is finally on the way! After a year of planning that felt longer than waiting for a pizza delivery, shovels finally hit the dirt this spring, and it’s full steam ahead with construction. With the new fire station, the team will no longer have to manage in a decommissioned Air Force base building, which, let’s be real, has had its day. “It has served its purpose for many, many years,” Evans noted, but it seems clear that our Fire Department deserves a modern upgrade.

Just across the road at Beach Life Resortwear, employee Luisa Kurmberg has been watching the transformation unfold. When asked about the new station, she said, “I’m glad we’re close to the fire department if we need something it’s right there.” Doesn’t that make you feel safer already? She mentioned how the community has grown and how important a modern facility is for everyone. In her words, “This is a big community now!”
