In what feels like a tough moment for the close-knit Conway and Myrtle Beach communities, Daisy Fair Flowers, the beloved local flower shop, has officially closed its doors for the foreseeable future. The heartfelt news was shared by the shop’s general manager, Daved Kinard, who has been an integral part of the store for over 20 years, and his husband, JT Fleischman.
Kinard, who has been managing the award-winning flower shop since 2018, was hospitalized last week as he continues to fight health challenges. “We’re gonna have to close just so that I can make sure his care is everything he deserves to get as far as just how much time I can devote,” Fleischman explained. This decision, although tough, shows the remarkable commitment they share for each other during these trying times.
The closure was announced over the weekend on their Facebook page, and the response from the community has been nothing short of extraordinary. Fleischman expressed his gratitude for the support, saying, “The support we’ve gotten from people is more overwhelming than anything else we have going on.” He shared how he’s received countless hugs from supportive faces as he walks in and out of the hospital.
On Monday, despite the sadness of the store closing, a steady stream of customers came through the shop, reminiscing about their fond memories at Daisy Fair. One such customer, Cindy Cupps, fondly remembered visiting the flower shop as a kid. “We would actually go to breakfast downtown and then we would come in and walk through the flower shop,” she said with a smile. The sweet, pungent smell of fresh blooms was a standout memory for her, a reminder of family gatherings and special occasions.
As a child, her family often used flowers from Daisy Fair for pageants, recitals, and dances. More recently, her sister picked out arrangements for her wedding, showing just how interwoven this shop has become in the lives of many families.
Another loyal customer, Jolene Hatcher, remembers how she used Daisy Fair flowers to add flair to her fashion shows when she owned a beauty shop in Myrtle Beach. She called Kinard a “creative genius,” noting how each display was more than just a simple arrangement. “When you walked in it wasn’t an average flower in a bowl; it was creative, artistic,” she said. Customers would often walk in and exclaim, “Oh, how fabulous!” when they saw the stunning arrangements.
While Daisy Fair is closed “for now,” Fleishman mentioned that there is hope for reopening down the road. “We’re looking at options depending on what the family decides,” he shared. Meanwhile, all customers who had future orders placed have already been notified of the closure.
As the community waits with bated breath for updates, it’s clear that the love for Daisy Fair Flowers runs deep. The support from Conway and beyond is a testament to how intertwined this flower shop is with the fabric of our community. With heartfelt wishes for Kinard’s recovery and a hopeful outlook for the store’s future, Myrtle Beach showcases its true spirit of kindness and togetherness during tough times.
