Living in Myrtle Beach: Enjoying Lower Household Bills Compared to National Average

Living in Myrtle Beach: Your Wallet Will Thank You!

If you’re calling Myrtle Beach home, we’ve got some fantastic news that will surely brighten your day! A recent report has revealed that folks in our beloved coastal city—and in many other cities in the Grand Strand—are spending less on monthly household bills than the national average. Now, that’s something to celebrate!

What the Numbers Say

The folks over at Doxo, a bill payment company, crunched the numbers using data from the U.S. Census Bureau and over 10 million customers to figure out what we’re all paying for things like mortgage, rent, insurance, and more. According to their findings, the average American household forks out $2,126 every month for these necessities. But here in good ol’ South Carolina, we’re spending about $1,917 a month, which is 10% less than the national average!

A Quick Peek at South Carolina

Now, in terms of household bills, South Carolina is ranked as the 36th-most expensive state. On average, South Carolinians spend about 35% of their paycheck on these routine bills. So even though we’re saving some dollars compared to folks nationwide, that chunk of change still takes a fair bite out of our income!

Grand Strand Cities Break Down

Let’s dive into our neck of the woods—Horry and Georgetown Counties—which had nine cities featured in this report. Here’s how some of our favorite beach towns stack up in terms of monthly household bills:

  • North Myrtle Beach: On average, residents here spend $2,009 each month on bills, making it the priciest in the Grand Strand but still 6% cheaper than the national average!
  • Little River: Here the average is about $1,927, and folks pay around 9% less annually compared to the national average.
  • Murrells Inlet: Residents spend around $1,900 a month on bills, which is 11% lower than the national average. Not too shabby!
  • Pawleys Island: With an average billing of $1,899, Pawleys Island is in the same boat as Murrells Inlet, also spending 11% less annually.
  • Longs: Residents here spend around $1,855 monthly, saving about 13% compared to the national average!
  • Georgetown: Here in Georgetown, households shell out about $1,800, significantly 15% less than typical American bills.
  • Myrtle Beach: In our beloved city, the average household pays around $1,790 a month, which is a comfortable 16% lower than what others face across the country.
  • Conway: Coming in lower, Conway residents spend about $1,716, lending to 19% savings compared to the average American.
  • Loris: And finally, Loris stands out as the most economical in our area, with bills averaging about $1,661, representing 22% less against national averages.

Conclusion

All in all, it seems like living in Myrtle Beach and its neighboring cities isn’t just about sun and sand; it’s also about saving bucks! So, whether you’re lounging on the beach or hitting up your favorite local spot, rest easy knowing your household expenses are a little lighter than those in other parts of the nation.

Now doesn’t that make you feel good about choosing Myrtle Beach as your home sweet home?
