Myrtle Beach Community Mourns Beloved Woman Killed in Tragic Shooting Incident

Myrtle Beach Community in Shock After Tragic Incident

The beautiful coastal city of Myrtle Beach is reeling from a heartbreaking event that touches right at the heart of our community. A beloved local woman, 74-year-old Wanda Lowry, was shot and killed in her home, leaving her family, friends, and neighbors in disbelief and sorrow.

A Generous Heart Taken Too Soon

Wanda was known as a warm and loving person, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her son, Scott Riddle, shared a touching statement about his mother, highlighting her extraordinary kindness. He explained how she opened her home to a co-worker who was going through a tough time. Unfortunately, that generosity had tragic consequences.

In Scott’s words: “Tragically, my mother’s generosity allowed this horrific man to commit the most heinous and cowardly of acts.” Those words really hit hard. It’s unimaginable that such a caring soul met her end this way—especially in the place where she felt safest: her own home.

The Investigation and Arrest

The local police moved quickly once they learned about Wanda’s death. After performing a welfare check on September 20, they discovered her body, leading to an urgent investigation. It was revealed that Wanda had been killed about a week earlier, on September 12. The police arrested a 29-year-old man, Morgan Folta, and charged him with murder.

The circumstances surrounding the case are still unfolding, but it appears that Folta made statements while being treated at the Lighthouse Behavioral Hospital that directed police to him. It’s clear that there are many unanswered questions right now, and the community is left wondering how someone could commit such an awful act against a person so full of love.

A Community Grapples with Loss

Wanda’s passing has sent ripples of grief throughout Myrtle Beach. Scott described his mother as “kind and loving,” a cherished mother, grandmother, friend, and colleague who will be sorely missed. He reiterated how important it is to cherish our loved ones, urging everyone to hug those they hold dear: “Life is precious and fragile.”

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the community for the overwhelming words of support and love they’ve received since the tragedy. They’ve also extended their gratitude to the Horry County police for their swift action in apprehending the suspect. In times like this, it’s heartening to see the community come together, proving once again that we are all in this together.

A Reminder to Be Vigilant

As we mourn and reflect on Wanda’s life, there’s an important lesson woven into this tragedy. Community members are reminded to practice vigilance, even when being generous. It’s a tough balancing act of being open-hearted while also being cautious.

In times of sorrow, we often find strength in each other. It’s crucial to rally around one another, share stories of joy, and carry forward Wanda’s legacy of caring and helping those around her.

Closing Thoughts

Myrtle Beach is known for its warm beaches and friendly atmosphere, but today, it feels like a cloud has settled over us. As we process this tragic event, let’s remember to hold our loved ones close and look out for each other. A strong, loving community can make all the difference, and together, we can navigate through this difficult time.

Always remember—life is precious.
