In the coastal city of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a local committee is striving to preserve the area’s natural beauty. Known as the ‘Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful Committee’, this group is focused on keeping the beach and surrounding areas free of litter.
On a recent Monday morning, over 25 volunteers came together at Hurl Rock Park, located on South Ocean Boulevard, for a committed clean-up effort. The volunteers were provided with essential clean-up gear, including trash bags, grabbers, gloves, and they were even treated to snacks for their efforts.
Yaritiza Tinoco, a liaison for the ‘Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful Committee’, expressed her gratitude towards the city for their maintenance efforts. However, she stated, “During the colder months, we should all lend a hand to preserve our beautiful park. By cleaning as much as possible, especially ahead of the upcoming season, we aim to set a good example for others.”
Moreover, the clean-up day also served as a celebration of the national “Set a Good Example Day”. Brooke Vu, one of the volunteers present at the event, expressed her thoughts on the movement. “The best way to set a good example is by carrying out such acts of cleanliness every day—not just when the calendar instructs us to. This is something we can even incorporate into our daily walks to the grocery store or the beach.”
In an attempt to consistently maintain the city’s pristine coasts, ‘Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful’ organizes community clean-up and beautification projects once or twice a month. The next event is set to take place at the end of March. Interested parties can click here to see ‘Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful’ events if they want to get involved.
The community’s efforts in preserving the coastal city’s beauty are testament to the strong drive towards collective responsibility and environmental conservation. Everyone can play a part in keeping their environment clean, whether on a designated day or during everyday activities. Actions may be as simple as picking up trash while strolling on the beach or participating in a local clean-up activity like the one organized by the ‘Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful’ committee. By doing so, we are not just setting a good example but also ensuring that the beauty of Myrtle Beach persists for future generations.
