Hey Myrtle Beach! There’s some wonderful news buzzing around town, and it’s all about our very own Chief Deputy Tom Fox of the Horry County Sheriff’s Office! He’s just bagged the 2024 Strom Thurmond Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement, and we couldn’t be prouder!
Established way back in 1983 by the late Senator Strom Thurmond, this award is all about shining a spotlight on those who show incredible dedication and achievement in law enforcement at various levels—from city and county to state and even federal. Chief Deputy Fox is one of those exceptional individuals who has made a meaningful impact in our community.
With a whopping over 40 years of experience under his belt, Chief Fox is known as a go-to expert in the field. People look to him for his knowledge, advice, and creative problem-solving. It’s pretty clear that he isn’t just about enforcing the law; he’s all about making the community a better place.
One of the coolest contributions he’s made is starting the Community Law Enforcement Appreciation Committee, which brings together law enforcement and the community for a good cause. Not to mention, he’s also been awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major award for his unwavering commitment to equality and service. How amazing is that?
Let’s not forget that Chief Fox served as the former Director of the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. He was the mastermind behind the first-ever jail diversion program that’s still helping inmates in recovery, even after 20 years! Talk about long-lasting impact!
But that’s not all—he’s also passionate about education in public safety. By starting the Sheriff’s Foundation of Horry County, he’s raising funds for scholarships for students entering this field. Investing in the next generation is something we can all get behind!
Chief Fox isn’t just focused on law enforcement; he’s got a heart for those in need too. He has played a significant role in raising nearly a million dollars to help build a women’s shelter in Horry County through his work as the Vice Chairman of the Board for the Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties. That’s some serious commitment to improving lives!
In a fantastic feat, Chief Fox is the second member of the Horry County Sheriff’s Office to be honored with this prestigious award. A big shout-out to him for representing us so well! It’s clear that he’s making waves and setting a shining example for others.
As we soak in this great news, let’s all take a moment to congratulate Chief Deputy Tom Fox. His hard work and dedication have not only made a mark in law enforcement but have positively affected everyone in Horry County. Keep shining bright, Chief Fox; we’re all rooting for you!
