Myrtle Beach Chef Arrested Amid Gun Charges and Other Disturbing Criminal Cases

Myrtle Beach is making headlines for not just its beautiful beaches but some troubling developments as well. Recently, a local chef, Michael William Leonard, known for being the 2024 winner of MasterChef: Generations, found himself in some serious hot water when he was arrested in Horry County on firearm-related charges. This incident has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit culinary community and the city at large.

The charges against Leonard are quite alarming. He is facing accusations of discharging firearms, which extends to slingshots, air rifles, and even explosions. Talk about a dramatic turn of events for someone in the public eye, right? Fortunately, after a quick trip to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, Leonard was released later that afternoon on a $1,000 bond. The community is left wondering what could have led to such risky behavior, especially from someone so celebrated in the culinary arts.

Meanwhile, the streets of Myrtle Beach continue to see other troubling incidents. Just a day after Leonard’s arrest, police responded to an assault at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Grey Street. As officers quickly discovered, the scene was not quite what it seemed—initial reports indicated a different location for where the assault actually unfolded. One person was rushed to a hospital, and another was taken into custody. However, details about this particular case remain scarce, leaving residents concerned about safety.

Switching gears a bit, an even more shocking and tragic situation has developed in the area. Sheridan Fogle, a 54-year-old man from Orangeburg, was arrested under horrific circumstances following the murder of 51-year-old Penni Whiteside. Fogle and Whiteside had been living together prior to her mysterious disappearance back in May 2022. Investigators, acting on witness statements, discovered Whiteside’s remains in the backyard of the home under a firepit, a discovery that has left the community reeling.

Local residents have expressed their disbelief about the situation, as they were completely unaware of the dark events happening so close to home. The police called Whiteside’s death a tragic loss of life and described the incident as a senseless crime of violence. As of now, the Horry County Coroner’s Office has yet to release the cause of death in this unsettling case.

Not to be overlooked, another shocking situation unfolded involving a Myrtle Beach resident, Austin Suman. The 35-year-old was arrested on federal charges for making heinous threats against a New York news reporter, which included messages filled with violence and hate. He allegedly threatened to kill the reporter and her family and even hinted at blowing up her house. It sounds straight out of a thriller movie, doesn’t it?

With support from the FBI and other law enforcement agencies, Suman’s arrest occurred in the Cresswind neighborhood of Myrtle Beach. He is now facing several charges for allegations that include threatening interstate communications, which is serious business, and has been linked back to a previous incident where he threatened a roommate with a gun back in February 2019. Suman remains in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, with further legal proceedings expected in a New York federal court.

In conclusion, Myrtle Beach is certainly going through some tumultuous times. With incidents involving celebrated chefs, shocking assaults, and life-altering threats making headlines, locals can’t help but feel the weight of the situation. As everyone tries to process these events, one can only hope for swift justice and a return to a sense of safety in this beautiful seaside town.
