Myrtle Beach Hosts Exciting Charity Softball Tournament
The sun was shining bright over Myrtle Beach this past Saturday, and the sounds of cheering fans and the crack of bats filled the air. It was all part of the 16th Annual Guns and Hoses Charity Softball Tournament, a fun-filled day where first responders from all corners of Horry County came together not only to compete but also to support a great cause. Charity at Heart
All the proceeds from this event benefit the Project Lifesaver program spearheaded by SOS Cares. The principal aim? To provide radio frequency bracelets for those who wander, especially individuals with disabilities like Autism, Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and traumatic brain injuries. Monique Clement, the Project Lifesaver Coordinator for Horry County, explained, “We work in partnership with local law enforcement and public safety, that’s why we are here playing the game today. We are raising funds for Project Lifesaver.”
Thanks to these fun fundraisers, families can receive these essential bracelets at no cost, ensuring that they have one less thing to worry about. We all know how important it is to keep our loved ones safe, and this initiative is one heartwarming way to help achieve that.
A Day of Riveting Rivalry
Now, let’s talk about the tournament style match-up that saw eight first responder teams going head-to-head. The competitive spirit was palpable as the teams put their unity and camaraderie on display, but also their fierce desire to win! “It’s a great rivalry between the first responders. They work together so much throughout the year, so this is one time of the year they can cut loose and have some fun,” added Clement.
Beautified by the bustling sounds of laughter and cheers, the field transformed into a battleground of sorts. It was more than just a game; it was a chance to let loose, have fun, and of course, earn some serious bragging rights.
The Finals: A Nail-Biter
As the games progressed, excitement reached a fever pitch during the final showdown between the Horry County Police Department and the Myrtle Beach Fire Department. And trust us, it was a nail-biter! With both teams fiercely competing, the tension was thick in the air. Lt. Jamie DeBari from Horry County expressed the sentiments in the air perfectly when he said, “It’s a competition. We love competition and we love to get out here and have fun doing that.” Clearly, there was no shortage of enthusiasm!
In an exhilarating finish, the Horry County Police managed to edge out the victory with a score of 15 to 14. You could almost hear the sighs of relief echo from behind home plate as the cheering erupted for the winning team. “Losing today wasn’t an option,” DeBari added with a grin as his team celebrated their hard-earned bragging rights.
