Myrtle Beach Woman Sues Resort After Bed Bug Infestation Ruins Vacation

Myrtle Beach Woman Files Lawsuit After Bed Bug Nightmare at Resort

In a somewhat unsettling turn of events, a woman from Milwaukee County is taking to the court system after what she claims was a harrowing experience involving pesky bed bugs during her vacation at the Grand Palms Resort in Myrtle Beach. This story might just make you think twice before you pack your bags for the next getaway!

Vacation Gone Wrong

Pamela Hullum, a Wisconsin resident, reportedly found herself on the receiving end of numerous bed bug bites while enjoying her stay at the resort back in May. According to the personal injury lawsuit she filed, the summer sun wasn’t the only thing that left marks—those blood-sucking little critters were hard at work too! Hullum claims she suffered not just physical injuries, but some serious psychological trauma as well, thanks to her unwanted nighttime guests.

Where Did It Happen?

During her stay, Hullum was lodged in unit C2 at the resort’s presence in Myrtle Beach, specifically at the address of 233 Presidential Drive. Although the resort is part of the larger Grand Palms Resort family, its principal address is actually located at 1250 U.S. Highway 17 N. in Surfside Beach. We can only imagine how confusing that must have been during check-in!

What Happens Next?

The lawsuit identifies both the property owner—whose identity remains a mystery—and the big name resort, Plantation Resort Villas IV, as defendants in this grim tale. According to Hullum, the discomfort didn’t end with the annoying bites. She discovered visible signs of a bed bug infestation, including not just the creepy crawlies but also disturbing black excrement stains on the bed—yikes!

Alerting the Authorities

Upon finding these distressing signs, Hullum wasted no time in alerting Grand Palms Resort and the unit owner about her uncomfortable situation. Reports indicate that their housekeeping team, alongside pest control specialists, confirmed the existence of the bed bugs. Talk about an unwelcome surprise during a relaxing vacation!

The Aftermath

As if getting bitten wasn’t enough, Hullum claims that the negligence of both the property owner and the resort led to significant emotional distress. She alleges to have endured permanent scarring and a “loss of enjoyment” when it comes to her vacation experience—which we’d all agree is a pretty valid claim. Seriously, summer trips are meant for sunbathing and frolicking on the beach, not fighting off bugs!

Seeking Justice

What does Hullum want in return for her bothersome ordeal? While the lawsuit does not specify a dollar amount, it does mention that she is seeking compensation for various costs incurred during this unfortunate series of events. This includes expenses related to her medical treatment and costs she faced for cleaning and replacing her infested property. In her eyes, making things right means seeking “just and proper” damages.

Response from the Resort

As of now, Grand Palms Resort has not stepped up to respond to the lawsuit or provided any comments about this distressing case. We’re waiting to see how they plan to handle these serious allegations.

This case certainly brings attention to the importance of thorough inspections and clean accommodations for all vacation-goers. So, next time you book a stay somewhere, you might want to check those online reviews for any hint of creepy crawlies!
