‘Cultural Currency’: Myrtle Beach Art Museum exhibit a ‘crowd-pleaser’

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Art enthusiasts are flocking to the Myrtle Beach Art Museum this summer for a unique collection of money-themed art called ‘Cultural Currency’. This exhibit, which is garnering immense crowds, features artwork from various genres including prints, paintings, and mixed media, all with money as the medium.

The Uniqueness of the Exhibit

William Miller, the Museum’s institutional planning coordinator revealed their anticipation that ‘Cultural Currency’ could be a major crowd-puller. Museum patrons, both young and old, remain awestruck by the diverse interpretations of money by the artists and the subject matters they explore, ranging from inflation to the value of money. He further highlighted that the ‘burger money’ artwork has gained significant popularity, with many patrons eagerly snapping selfies with it.

The Riemer Collection

This contemporary art exhibit pulls from the notable Riemer collection, which was started in 1995 by Louise and Davis Riemer, art-loving investment advisers. The couple decided to focus their collection on art related to currency, money, and investments, employing a unique and intriguing theme that resonates with many visitors due to its interrelation with daily life.

Art Workshops for All Ages

Further elevating the experience, the Myrtle Beach Art Museum is offering free art workshops every Saturday in August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. These workshops are open to all ages and encourage visitors to explore their artistic sides, taking inspiration from the ‘Cultural Currency’ exhibit and incorporating monetary themes into their creations.

‘Cultural Currency’: An Exhibit to Remember

Myrtle Beach is rich in culture and art, and ‘Cultural Currency’ is a testament to the city’s dedication to bringing unique experiences to its residents and tourists alike. Miller expressed that the community response has far exceeded their expectations, and they are thrilled to see so many people appreciating the creativity and uniqueness of the exhibit.

The ‘Cultural Currency’ exhibit will remain on display until September 22. It continues to generate buzz and attract attention, providing an avenue for people to appreciate art, learn about the various interpretations of currency, and create their own works inspired by the exhibit.

This art exhibit functions not only as a display of creativity and artistic talent, but also as a platform for the community to engage in discussion about the representation and significance of money in society. It is a splendid addition to Myrtle Beach’s vibrant art scene and is expected to leave a lasting impact on attendees, enhancing the cultural spirit of the city.
