Man Accused of Breaking into Myrtle Beach-Area Apartment, Assaults Female Resident in Her Sleep

A Disturbing Crime in Myrtle Beach:

Myrtle Beach, SC – A man was recently arrested in the Myrtle Beach suburb after allegedly breaking into an apartment and assaulting a resident in her sleep. The individual, identified as Edgar Guadalupe Cruz Velasco, faces several charges including assault and battery first-degree, kidnapping and burglary. This grievous incident took place at Carolina Breeze Apartments, a quiet residential complex popular among local families.

A Terrifying Night for the Victim

According to the local authorities, Cruz Velasco surreptitiously entered the apartment, where the female victim was sleeping. He reportedly climbed atop the unsuspecting resident, began to choke her, and inappropriately touched her. Struggling hard, but unable to escape, the victim managed to let out a desperate scream and alert a co-occupant of the apartment.

Witness Account and Perpetrator’s Escape

The witness, who was asleep upstairs, was jolted awake by the victim’s scream. Rushing to the scene, he found Cruz Velasco assaulting the victim. On the confrontation, the intruder immediately fled the apartment. The eyewitness recounted the accused getaway in a white Chevy pickup truck, heading presumably towards 3rd Avenue South.

Apprehension of the Suspect by Local Law Enforcement

Following the quick report of the crime, local law enforcement carried out a swift and extensive search of the area. Hours later, they located Cruz Velasco on Highway 15 and apprehended him. The assailant continues to remain in police custody at J Reuben Long Detention Center awaiting further legal proceedings.

Residents Urged to Stay Vigilant

While heinous, such incidents serve as a stark reminder for residents to be aware of their safety and the security of their residences. HERE News Network advises locals to double-check the security of their homes. Crime does not announce itself, and as this case exemplifies, it could strike even in the seemingly safe confines of one’s home.

Safety Measures for Myrtle Beach Residents

Residents are advised to lock all entrances to their homes, especially during the nighttime, and invest in added security if possible. Regularly checking that windows and doors are secure could be the first line of defence. Neighbourhood watches and security alarms can also provide an extra level of protection.
