Travelers flocking to Myrtle Beach International Airport for Spring Break.
As Spring Break approaches, Myrtle Beach International Airport anticipates a significant increase in passengers, expecting over 10% more than last year. With thousands of travelers set to pass through, preparations are underway to ensure smooth travel experiences. Authorities are urging travelers to be mindful of security regulations and prohibited items, particularly firearms, before heading to the airport. Travelers will also need a real ID-compliant license starting May 7. With these tips in mind, travelers can look forward to an adventure-filled Spring Break season!
Spring Break is just around the corner, and Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is gearing up for an exciting travel season! This year, the airport is expecting a surge in passenger volume—over 10% more than last year’s already impressive figures. From early March to April 21, thousands of travelers will be passing through this bustling airport as they make their way to sunny vacation spots!
If you’re planning to fly from MYR during the peak travel period, be ready for crowds! Currently, around 2,500 passengers are screened each day, but that number is projected to soar to approximately 4,000 by the end of March. And during the busy summer months? Even more, with figures hitting up to 12,000 per day. So, packing your patience is just as important as packing your bags!
To make your travel experience as smooth as possible, the TSA is actively preparing to handle the increased volume of travelers. To help keep lines moving, it’s crucial for everyone to be aware of what you can and cannot bring through security. Knowing about prohibited items can save you time and possibly a little headache. Items like oversized liquids, self-defense tools, and, of course, live firearms cannot pass through security checkpoints. In fact, MYR has already detected 13 active firearms last year, with one found this year to date.
Travelers who try to bring a live firearm to security can face serious consequences, including civil penalties that can reach up to $15,000! If you have a TSA Pre-check status and happen to bring a firearm, you could be at risk of losing that status for five years. So it’s best to double-check your bags before heading to the airport.
If you do need to travel with a firearm, remember that it must be properly packaged and checked with your airline before your journey. Safety first, of course!
Another crucial point to keep in mind is that starting May 7, travelers will need to present a real ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of ID. You can easily identify a compliant ID by the gold star located on the front. Make sure you have your ID in order before you get to the airport to avoid any last-minute surprises.
Finally, MYR encourages you to dispose of any prohibited items responsibly before you even get to security. No one wants to be the person holding up the line or facing penalties, so take a moment to check your bags before you leave home.
With the anticipation of a busy travel season, Myrtle Beach International Airport is committed to keeping your travel experience as enjoyable and efficient as possible. Keep all these tips in mind, and you’ll be ready for an adventure-filled spring break. Safe travels, and happy flying!
