Myrtle Beach Passengers Get a New Way to Keep Their Belongings
Well, folks, if you’ve ever been at the Myrtle Beach International Airport and found yourself in a pickle because of a forbidden item in your carry-on, then boy, do we have some exciting news for you! It seems that our very own airport is stepping up to make travel just a little bit easier for everyone.
A Bright Idea to Save Your Stuff!
Imagine this: you’re ready to board your flight, but oops! That trusty pocket knife your grandpa gifted you back in the day is hanging out in your bag. You’re thinking, “Oh no! Not again!” But what if I told you that soon, if you’re at Myrtle Beach International Airport, you might have an option that allows you to mail it back home instead of letting it go? That’s right! Thanks to a recent approval from the Horry County Council’s Infrastructure and Regulation committee, the Flippit Corporation will be setting up two mailing locations right in our airport.
How Does It Work?
Here’s how the whole thing is going to shake out: there will be one mailing spot located before security and another one after. So, whether you have a moment of panic before heading through the checkpoint or a realization while in the secure area, you’ll have options. All you have to do is pop your prohibited item into a special envelope, drop it into one of the two drop-boxes, and for a flat fee of just $29, it’ll be shipped back to your home insured! Talk about a relief! You’ll have your item back in 7-10 days and not have to worry about losing something special.
The Inspiration Behind Flippit
This fantastic idea was actually sparked by an incident involving a college student from Connecticut who forgot his Swiss Army knife in his bag. Rather than just accepting the loss, he and his family came up with the Flippit idea. So, next time you’re about to travel, think about this innovative solution created by someone who truly knows what it’s like to have that sinking feeling in your stomach when faced with a TSA prohibition.
Good News for the Airport, Too!
Not only does this service make life easier for travelers, but it’s also a sweet deal for our airport! County Councilman Tom Anderson believes this new service will be a great amenity for passengers. And here’s a fun nugget of info: Flippit will actually pay the county 10% of the gross revenue they earn from this mail-back service. So, it’s a win-win for travelers and our local economy!
Other Airport Improvements
But wait, there’s more! The I&R committee is not stopping at just Flippit. They’re also giving the airport’s budget a boost by transferring $1.1 million for some much-needed upgrades to the parking management and collection software. This upgrade will use license plate readers to keep track of the cars in the lots, which should help increase revenue and cut down on those sneaky folks who are trying to park for free. Councilman Bill Howard shared that this will definitely help the airport run smoother. We love to see our local airport thriving!
Wrapping It Up
So, Myrtle Beach, if you often travel through MYR, keep your eyes peeled for Flippit and these exciting new changes. Next time you’re tempted to sneak that cherished pocket knife through security, just remember—you could mail it home instead! Here’s to stress-free traveling, folks! Safe travels!
