Myakka City: The New Golfing Hotspot

If you haven’t heard of Myakka City, get ready, because it’s stepping into the spotlight as a premier golf destination! The recently opened Soleta Golf Club, which held its official opening on December 10, is making waves for both its stunning design and its prime location. Set on 33720 Singletary Road, this par-72, 18-hole course is more than just a pretty view—it’s a labor of love brought to life by World Golf Hall of Famer Nick Price and renowned golf instructor David Leadbetter.

Hard Work Pays Off

When developers David Turner, John Galt, and Charles Duff met with Price and Leadbetter a year ago to break ground, they did so with high hopes and a vision. “We were sitting with everyone here, basically in a barn with the cow pasture, and a vision to build a fantastic, special, and unique place,” Turner shared. Fast forward a year and here they are, thrilled to see their hard work pay off with what they believe is a remarkable course.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing! Natural obstacles like Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton tried their best to delay the project, but the team powered through. Duff commented that the contractors, Price, and Leadbetter viewed the project as a “labor of love,” emphasizing the teamwork that turned their dreams into reality.

What’s Next for Soleta?

While the course is officially open, there’s more to come. The golf community will gradually grow, featuring amenities like a pool, spa, fitness center, and more. The first houses are expected to be ready by Fall 2025, with all facilities projected for completion between late 2026 and early 2027.

The name “Soleta” pays homage to the indigenous Native Americans who named sandhill cranes. It’s fitting since the course thrives with wildlife, from alligators and snakes to deer and even Florida panthers. Developers were keen to ensure that the natural habitat was preserved, making the course as eco-friendly as possible.

A Home for Golfers

Golfers can expect a top-notch experience at Soleta. The course is designed for every skill level, featuring three different tee positions to accommodate everyone—from beginners to pros looking for a challenge. The ‘Nick Price Black’ tees stretch the course out to a hefty 7,415 yards, while the front tees are positioned at 5,145 yards (Green tees) and 5,805 yards (White tees).

One of the standout features of the course? There’s hardly any rough! With vast waste bunkers lining the fairways, golfers can still play creatively and run the ball onto the greens, embodying the spirit of links golf. Price explained, “Golf is two games. One is in the air and one on the ground,” and they’ve designed Soleta to encourage that blend.

Practice Makes Perfect

Don’t worry if you need to work on your game—Soleta has got you covered! The top-of-the-line practice facility includes Top Tracer technology, giving players instant feedback on their performance. With versatile chipping greens and a putting green designed for all sorts of slopes, golfers will be well-prepared for any course challenge. Leadbetter is confident that players will appreciate the awesome instructional programs available. “We have a great team here to help you extricate yourself from some of these lies that you may get in the sandy areas,” he said.

Membership Details

For those interested in joining, Soleta Golf Club has set a membership cap at 275 local members and 100 national members. Currently, they have around 170 members on board. The initiation fees are set at $100,000 for local members and $50,000 for national members. Just remember that national members will have some restrictions on their play!

In conclusion, Myakka City is making a leap into the big leagues with Soleta Golf Club. Whether you’re an experienced golfer or just getting started, this course promises to offer a unique and enjoyable playing experience. So grab your clubs, because it’s time to tee off at this stunning new location!
