Poolside Vigilance Reminder

Mother Charged in 5-Year-Old’s Drowning at Resort in Myrtle Beach

Charges Imposed on Mother over Child’s Tragic Drowning

News breaks out of a haunting incident in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The mother of a five-year-old girl has recently been charged in connection with the child’s drowning that occurred at a resort pool. Alyse Wike, a 35-year-old woman hailing from Pineville, S.C., was officially detained by the local police department on Monday. Wike now faces charges of unlawful neglect of a child.

The Drowning Incident

Reports indicate that emergency services were first alerted to the incident at the Sea Crest Resort on South Ocean Boulevard on June 22. A drowning incident at the location prompted a deeper investigation. Officers assigned to the case made use of available surveillance footage that covered the pool area.

The analysis of the video discovered Wike in the shallow, one-foot area of the pool, accompanied by her five-year-old daughter. The footage later shows Wike moving away from the shallow pool area, making her way to a nearby Tiki Bar where she would not have had a clear view of her child.

Chilling Events Unfolded

According to the police documents, the young girl is seen getting out of the one-foot pool area, following her mother’s departure and ventures into the considerably deeper main pool. It was only after approximately 9 minutes within the water, a bystander noticed the child and brought her out of the pool.

The local coroner’s office reports denote that the child was immediately rushed to the Grand Strand Medical Center following her extraction from the pool. In a grievous turn of events, she was then transported to the Medical University of South Carolina due to her critical condition. Regrettably, the child succumbed to her condition and passed away the following day.

Resulting Consequences and Legal Proceedings

Alyse Wike, the mother now facing severe charges, was presented with a $10,000 personal recognizance bond and was temporarily released from jail later on Monday. The charges she faces are grave, and the case is expected to proceed to court soon.

This tragic incident has left a significant impact on the resort’s visitors and the local community. The case continues to remind everyone of the importance of vigilance when it comes to the safety of young children, especially in areas like swimming pools that present potential risks.
