Missing Woman’s Remains Found Near Myrtle Beach Home, Man Charged with Murder

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – A shocking development emerged on Thursday morning, as authorities took in custody a 54-year old man named Sheridan Fogle, charging him with the murder of 51-year old Penni Whiteside who had been reported missing in May 2022. The remains of Whiteside were found near a home at the 600 block of 1st Avenue South, in Myrtle Beach.

An Unexpected Discovery

Authorities were led to the location of Whiteside’s remains after witnessing accounts suggested that she may have been buried in the suspect’s backyard, specifically under a firepit. The police had been conducting investigations on the case since May 11, 2022, when Whiteside was reported missing. After obtaining a search warrant on June 12, officers searched Fogle’s property and discovered the remains. The victim was confirmed as Whiteside following formal identification.

Local Community in Shock

The news has left the community in shock. Interviews with neighbours revealed that none had any inkling of the nefarious activity that had occurred right in their midst.

“It’s absolutely bizarre,” said Nikolai Zaitsev, one of the neighbors. “Kids play at the park here every day; there are birthday parties, weddings, all kinds of normal activities. Everybody was totally oblivious to what was actually going on.”

Residents expressed their hope for justice in the wake of the gruesome discovery. “You’re going to have bad people everywhere. I’m glad they got him, and hopefully they’ve got enough to get a conviction,” said Jamie, another neighbor.

The Pursuit of Justice

Fogle was apprehended in Orangeburg and will face charges of murder in connection to this brutal crime. As the investigation continues, the community and police alike hope to bring justice to Penni Whiteside and her loved ones.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department referred to the grisly incident as “a tragic loss of life and a senseless crime of violence” and thanked both the U.S. Marshals Service and the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety for their assistance in apprehending the suspect. However, a cause of death has yet to be released.

HERE News Network will continue to provide updates on this deeply saddening crime and the ensuing judicial process. This is a community tragedy, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this difficult time.
