Sponsor Our ArticlesMichael Kim, once the top-ranked amateur in the world, faced significant challenges between 2019 and 2021. However, he has bounced back impressively in 2025 with multiple top finishes on the PGA Tour. After seeking expert coaching and adjusting his techniques, Kim has made remarkable improvements, including earning more money in just seven events compared to the entire previous season. His recent performance shows him continuing to excel and aiming for greater heights in professional golf.
Hey golf fans! Have you been keeping up with Michael Kim and his incredible journey? If you haven’t, prepare to be amazed by this talented golfer’s resurgence! Once the top-ranked amateur golfer in the world, Kim took the spotlight in 2018 when he clinched a PGA Tour trophy at the coveted John Deere Classic. But, like many athletes, he faced some tough challenges. From 2019 to 2021, it was a rocky period for Kim, and he struggled to make the cut in only 10 out of 66 events!
Can you imagine missing the cut in a whopping 49 competitions? Kim faced that heart-wrenching reality, which understandably can shake the confidence of any athlete. However, he knew he needed to make some changes to get back on track, so he sought out the guidance of some of the best coaches in the game!
One of the amazing coaches he turned to was Sean Foley, known for his work with the legendary Tiger Woods as well as the brilliant Lydia Ko. Foley introduced Kim to some fascinating drills, specifically designed to enhance his muscle memory. Can you believe he was practicing massive hooks? Talk about thinking outside the box!
On top of that, Kim connected with Joseph Mayo, who previously coached the rising star Viktor Hovland. Mayo focused on improving Kim’s chipping technique, and it seems the lesson made a significant impact! With hard work and expert guidance, Kim is now shining like never before. His current ranking of 22nd in strokes gained around the green speaks volumes about his improvement.
Fast forward to the 2025 PGA Tour season, and you won’t believe how far Kim has come! Within just seven events, he has earned more money than he did throughout the entire 2024 season, despite having played 23 additional tournaments last year! That’s some serious improvement! Though he got off to a rocky start by missing the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii, things have taken a turn for the better.
Since that initial setback, Kim has achieved an impressive four top-15 finishes in just six events. He put on an incredible display at an event in Arizona, finishing T2 and coming in just behind Belgium’s own Thomas Detry. But that’s not all – he also boasted T13 at the Genesis Invitational and finished T6 at the Cognizant Classic. Talk about a comeback!
Now, at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Kim finds himself ranked T5 after three thrilling rounds. And here’s the cherry on top – during one of his recent rounds, he carded two eagles for the first time in his professional career! That’s certainly something to celebrate!
Michael Kim’s journey reminds us all that with hard work, resilience, and the right guidance, anything is possible. As we continue to follow his progress, one can’t help but think there’s only more excitement to come from this golfing sensation. So, what do you think will be next for him? One thing is for sure; the world will be watching!
