Hey, Myrtle Beach! It’s that time of year again when our wonderful community comes together to lend a helping hand through the 22nd Annual Marathon for Meals. This beloved event is the Grand Strand’s longest-running media-driven charity, bringing locals together to feed locals in need. From November 16th to November 22nd, this heartwarming initiative encourages everyone to unite for a common cause.
DBC Radio Myrtle Beach, in partnership with Food Lion, is leading the charge in collecting food for those who are struggling in our area. You can participate by dropping off your donations right in front of the Food Lion located at 38th Avenue North. All items collected will be generously donated to Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach and the Community Kitchen of Myrtle Beach. These organizations work tirelessly to support families and individuals who are facing tough times.
This year, there’s a special focus on collecting hygiene items. Many in our community require more than just food staples; soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, and other hygiene products are essential too. As Kosmo, a Midday Personality for WMYB – ENERGY 92.1, mentioned, “We’re supplementing their food and hygiene items, because they’re just running low. Due to a recent disaster nearby, many are donating to those in immediate need, which is admirable, but it has left our local organizations with fewer supplies than they usually have.”
Last year, the strength of Myrtle Beach’s spirit shone through as we managed to gather an incredible 15,000 pounds of food. But organizers are daring to dream bigger this time around, setting a goal of collecting 20,000 pounds of food! Just imagine the impact we can have if we all pitch in! Every little bit helps, and together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our neighbors.
So, what can you do to get involved? It’s simple! Gather up any non-perishable food items you can spare, and don’t forget to think about those hygiene products that are needed too. Whether it’s a few cans of soup, some dried beans, or even a tube of toothpaste, everything counts. If you’re unable to drop off items, consider reaching out to friends and family to see if they can help donate as well.
Your participation not only fills up food pantry shelves but sends a powerful message of community and compassion. When we see each other in need, we rise to the occasion and stand together. That’s the spirit that makes Myrtle Beach such a special place!
Let’s keep the momentum going until November 22nd and blow that goal out of the water! Spread the word, share the love, and let’s show how much we care! We are all in this together, and your contributions can provide a lifeline to fellow residents who might just need a little boost right now.
So, Myrtle Beach, let’s get donating and make this year’s Marathon for Meals the best one yet!
