Man charged with hit-and-run after car crashed into Conway-area utility pole

Conway, S.C. Incident Report

In a recent incident at Horry County, a man has been apprehended and charged after his car reportedly crashed into a utility pole. The accused, Michael Lynn Southerland, was charged with reckless driving and hit-and-run.

Horry County Fire Rescue on the Scene

Reports from the scene of the incident indicate that Horry County Fire Rescue were quick to respond to the car crash. The incident took place at approximately 1:40 a.m. on June 18 near Citadel Drive and Joe Carter Way.

Investigation and Findings

According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, Southerland was reportedly traveling north on Secondary 955. It’s reported that he was “aggressively operating” the vehicle. This aggressive driving behavior allegedly led to him running off the road and striking a light pole as well as a mailbox. Consequently, it’s reported that Southerland fled from the scene.

The same agency reported that he was later located and consequently charged with the hit-and-run case. The utility departments were alerted and crew members were dispatched to handle the damaged pole and the downed utility lines resulting from the crash.

Legal proceedings

As per online record data, it has been found that Southerland was released from J Reuben Long Detention Center on bond on June 19. Further proceedings in this recklessly driven case are expected to follow soon.

Public safety concerns

This incident has raised many concerns about public safety on the roads of Horry County. Road accidents due to reckless driving often lead to property damage and pose threats to people’s lives. This serves as an expensive and dangerous reminder of the importance of adhering to road safety rules and regulations at all times.
