Brookgreen Gardens, a stunning cultural center based right in the heart of our city, has unveiled an impressive array of events and programs lined up for the breezy month of March. The beautiful establishment will be bustling with a plethora of activities such as a butterfly house tour, engaging celebrations on Read Across America Day, a special exhibition, and much more to keep guests of all ages entertained.
The Gardens will be the proud host of a special exhibition titled “Art Deco: Defining an Era”, which is set to run from now until April 21. Visitors will be transported back in time to the glitz and glamour of the Art Deco period, showcasing intricate artifacts and art pieces representative of this iconic 1920s and 1930s design movement.
Kickstarting March’s events, Brookgreen Gardens invites children and families to the magical Enchanted Storybook Forest on March 2nd, 2024, in celebration of Read Across America Day. Encouraging a love for literacy and nature, the event features entertaining live games, interactive S.T.E.M challenges, and engaging make-and-take crafts. Kids are encouraged to dress up as their favorite book character, adding to the fun and excitement.
On March 5th, 2024, renowned artist and professor from the College of Charleston, Jarod Charzewski, will lead an enlightening discussion about the evolution and diversity in the world of public art. The talk will shed light on the dynamics of contemporary public art, touching upon aspects like materials, fabrication, installation, and conceptualization.
Photography enthusiasts will love the opportunity to join masters Anne Malarich, George DeCamp, and Rick Farrell for a two-hour walk on March 6th, 2024. Participants will explore the Gardens through their camera lens, capture exquisite flora, fauna, and discuss crucial photography topics.
Experience the pomp and splendor of the Whispering Wings Butterfly House as you join Horticulturist, Kaela Miller, on March 7th, 2024. Learn about host plants, nectar plants, and how to create your own private pollinator garden. Please note that butterflies will be unveiled in the exhibit only from May.
Stay aware and stay safe. With expert advice from Interpretive Ranger Ann Wilson on March 12th, 2024, attendees can learn how to stay safe from harmful creatures and plants encountered during outdoor adventures.
From a refreshing Tea Tasting event at the Museum Shop on March 12th, 2024, to the Collage Birdies session conducted by artist Terry Belanger, Brookgreen Gardens has something for everyone. Families and kids will especially enjoy the Members Only Eggstravaganza! on March 30th, 2024. Participants will meet delightful characters and embark on an exciting hunt for seasonal goodies, with a special treat waiting towards the end of their journey.
