Sponsor Our ArticlesLincoln is set to unveil its first new 18-hole golf course in over two decades, named Battle Run. Spearheaded by Par 5 Partners LLC and designed by renowned architect David McLay Kidd, the course will be located at the southeastern corner of 98th and O Streets. With amenities planned and an expected opening around 2027, this new addition aims to attract both local and visiting golf enthusiasts, reviving interest in the sport in the area.
Lincoln is excited to announce the upcoming Battle Run, a new 18-hole private golf course designed by David McLay Kidd and developed by the Peed family. This marks the city’s first golf course expansion in over two decades, promising a scenic environment and facilities that cater to local golfers. Scheduled for a 2027 opening, the course aims to revitalize the golfing scene in Lincoln amidst a growing interest in the sport.
Golf enthusiasts in Lincoln are in for a treat! The city is all set to welcome Battle Run, a brand new 18-hole private golf course that is set to break ground shortly, marking the first golf expansion in over two decades. The buzz is palpable as the Peed family, who brings a wealth of experience in the golf sector, team up with noted course designer David McLay Kidd to create what promises to be an extraordinary golfing experience.
This stunning new course will be nestled southeast of the intersection of 98th and O Streets, gracefully expanding from this point diagonally all the way to 112th and A Streets. It’s set to become a prime destination for golfers, offering not just a game of golf, but a beautiful scenic environment to enjoy while playing.
Under the ownership of Par 5 Partners LLC, which includes the Peed family, the course aims to cater not only to the regular golf community but also to local golf teams. The Peed family is well known in the golf world for their ownership of Sandhills Global, which operates the Dormie Network. This network already boasts fantastic courses like ArborLinks in Nebraska City and GrayBull near North Platte. However, Battle Run will not function as a Dormie Network club upon its opening.
Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Commission has given the thumbs-up for a special permit for Battle Run, bit by bit removing hurdles to get this project rolling. Notably, the commission also approved on-premise alcohol sales, adding a layer of charm to the course. Yet, it’s worth noting that local residents raised concerns regarding traffic implications and the potential impact on local wells due to increased water use. Those who wish to contest the Planning Commission’s decision have until February 19 to launch an appeal, which, if filed, would be presented to the Lincoln City Council.
Opening for play in approximately 2027, the initial phase of the course will primarily serve the Peeds and their invited guests. There are plans for practice rounds for the University of Nebraska and Lincoln Pius X golf teams, along with charity events to enhance community involvement. The development will include key facilities like a maintenance building, an on-course beverage station, restrooms, and an irrigation pump house. There are also talks for a second phase that might introduce a clubhouse and lodging, sure to make this course a home away from home for many golfers.
Lincoln has been waiting for a new golf venue since Wilderness Ridge Golf Club opened back in 2001. Over the years, the city has witnessed a decline, with three courses—Yankee Hill Country Club, The North Forty, and The Knolls—shuttered since then. Yet, recent trends are looking promising. Interest in golf is experiencing a renaissance, both locally and nationally, with a recorded surge in rounds played across the United States in 2023. Within Lincoln, city-owned golf courses registered over 235,000 rounds last year, climbing by 6.7% from 2022.
The construction for the first phase of Battle Run is expected to take around two years. As we await the arrival of this exciting facility, it looks like Lincoln is making significant strides toward enriching its local sports and recreational offerings. Golf lovers are already gearing up for what is sure to be a much-anticipated addition to the city, ready to appreciate the majestic beauty and challenge of this new golfing sanctuary!
