Travel Tips and What to Expect for the Labor Day Weekend in Myrtle Beach

The bustling, warm, and welcoming coastal city of Myrtle Beach is preparing for an influx of holidaymakers over the busy Labor Day weekend. The situation could easily turn stressful and overwhelming for holiday planners, particularly with the current unique circumstances. Therefore, AAA, the well-respected automotive and travel organization, shares insightful travel tips to help individuals plan and enjoy their vacation smoothly. The organization also highlighted a few important statistics for travelers this Labor Day weekend.

Travel Statistics

AAA reports a decline in domestic flight prices by 2%, with international flights becoming 8% cheaper compared to the previous year. This downward shift in airfare is a welcome change for many, given the aftereffects of the recently passed tropical storm Debby. The storm forced many individuals to cancel their travel plans, hence, many are using this weekend as an opportunity to catch up on their missed vacations.

The top domestic destination this Labor Day weekend seems to be Seattle, which serves as a launch point for Alaskan cruises. Orlando takes the second post in terms of popularity this year. As far as international travel is concerned, fewer people are indulging due to a sharp rise in international hotel prices. The favored international destinations among those who are traveling abroad, however, include Vancouver, Rome, and London.

Travel Tips for Air Travelers

For those opting to travel by air, AAA offers some crucial advice. Travelers are advised to allocate extra time for airport activities. AAA recommends extending the typical two-hour prior arrival for domestic flights to two and a half hours, and three-hour prior arrival for international flights to three and a half hours. This would allow enough time to smoothly navigate through security lines, and brace for any unanticipated encounters.

Moreover, AAA suggests travelers take advantage of their airlines’ and airports’ apps for updates. Packing only a carry-on bag can also help vacationers avoid the risk of losing luggage.

Travel Tips for Road Travelers

One significant piece of good news for road travelers is that barring any natural disasters, AAA predicts that travelers will save between 40 to 50 cents per gallon compared to last year. Gas prices are currently the lowest they’ve been in three years. However, it’s worthwhile to note that the Carolinas have seen a minor three cent rise in gas prices in the past few days due to Labor Day road trips spiking the demand.

AAA encourages road trippers to avoid traveling during rush hours. Optimal departure times for travel are in the morning on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday, and in the afternoon on Saturday and Tuesday. Apart from these timing tips, AAA also advises travelers to inspect their vehicles before embarking on their trips and to avoid driving when feeling drowsy. Lastly, packing lightly and keeping extra food and water is crucial for any unexpected situations and emergencies.

These travel tips and statistics by AAA stand as a vital guide for travelers planning for the busy Labor Day weekend in Myrtle Beach.
