In an exciting display of talent and determination, 15-year-old Kartik Singh has just made a significant mark in the world of golf. This amateur golfer from Gurugram has become the youngest Indian to make the cut at an international professional tournament, a milestone that has golf enthusiasts buzzing with admiration. His latest achievement came during the highly competitive $2 million International Series India, held at the prestigious DLF Golf & Country Club.
Singh’s journey through the tournament wasn’t just about making history; it was about how he navigated the demanding par-72 course. Over the course of 36 holes, he finished with a total score of four-over-par 148. This impressive performance included a breathtaking one-under-par 71 in his second round, which comfortably secured his spot for the weekend rounds. His score placed him tied for 30th place, with the cut line set at eight-over-par.
It’s worth noting that the DLF Golf & Country Club is known for its challenging conditions, with fast greens that can be quite unforgiving. The opening round saw a scoring average of 76.313, which indicates just how tough the course is. Throughout the tournament, there were many struggles on the course, including 111 double bogeys and an overwhelming 473 bogeys compared to only 313 birdies.
Playing alongside golf stars like reigning US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, as well as renowned golfers Anirban Lahiri and Joaquin Niemann, was a surreal experience for Singh. He expressed how these moments kept him grounded despite the pressure of competing at such a high level.
This young golfer has not always been in the professional spotlight. In fact, he transitioned from junior tournaments to professional play just last year and has already collected an impressive six wins in events related to the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) in 2024 alone. As a result, he entered this tournament ranked 129th in the WAGR, which helped him secure a place in the 108-man field at the event.
Despite having trained at a different course for three weeks leading up to the tournament, Singh managed to maintain his composure and adapt quickly. His impressive round of four-under through 11 holes during his second round showcased his ability to handle pressure and perform when it matters most.
Singh’s determination didn’t end with just making the cut; he is eyeing a high finish in the remaining rounds. Once the dust settles on this event, the Asian Tour will head to International Series Macau, where Singh will likely have more chances to shine.
In total, a remarkable ten Indian golfers made the cut at this tournament, highlighting the growing talent in professional golf from the region. It’s safe to say that Kartik Singh is a name to watch, not just for his achievements at such a young age, but for his potential in the sport moving forward. The future seems bright for this rising star, and fans are sure to be cheering for him as he continues his journey in golf.
