If you’re in the Myrtle Beach area, get ready for an exciting two-day event that music lovers and fans of the legendary John Lennon won’t want to miss. This month, a rare gallery showcasing candid photographs of Lennon, taken in the 1970s, will be making a stop in town!
These remarkable photos were captured by none other than May Pang, who was John Lennon’s assistant and later became his partner during a significant period of his life. Pang and Lennon dated for about 18 months, from 1973 to 1975, while he was separated from his wife, Yoko Ono. These years were pivotal for Lennon, not only in his personal life but also in his music career, as he produced some of his most successful solo albums, including “Mind Games” and “Walls and Bridges.”
According to Scott Segelbaum, the coordinator of the event, Pang and Lennon shared an apartment during their time together. This intimate setting allowed Pang to document their life through her lens, capturing moments that were both personal and inspiring.
The photos have remained largely under wraps for decades. Pang was keeping them for her own use back then, but decided it was time to share these precious memories with the world. It wasn’t until recently that she felt ready to open up about her time with Lennon. Pang has compiled her experiences into various books and even created a documentary titled “The Lost Weekend: A Love Story.”
Now, she’s taking her show on the road, bringing these candid and intimate pictures of Lennon to galleries across the United States, including here in Myrtle Beach!
The gallery exhibition, titled “The Lost Weekend – The Photography of May Pang,” will be held on December 10 and 11 at the Art and Frame Gallery located at 3261 Waccamaw Blvd. The event will be open from noon until 7 p.m. each day and best of all, it’s completely free to attend!
This is a fantastic opportunity not just to admire the stunning photos but also to hear some fascinating stories behind them! Pang herself will be at the gallery during the event, ready to share insights and anecdotes from her time with Lennon. Plus, if you’re a collector or just a fan looking for a special keepsake, you can purchase photos, which Pang will gladly sign for you.
This isn’t just a photo gallery; it’s a journey through time, showcasing the life of one of music’s greatest icons through the eyes of someone who truly knew him. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Lennon’s work or someone who has only recently come to appreciate his contributions to music, this event promises to be an enriching experience.
So mark your calendar, bring your friends and family, and make your way to the Art and Frame Gallery in Myrtle Beach this December. You never know—you might leave with more than just memories but a piece of rock history!
Join in the fun, embrace the music, and celebrate the legacy of John Lennon like never before. You don’t want to miss this chance to see the world through the lens of love and creativity. Can’t wait to see you there!
