Joe Highsmith Steals the Show at the Cognizant Classic!

In a thrilling showdown, Joe Highsmith emerged victorious at the Cognizant Classic, marking his first PGA Tour title. The young golfer played like a seasoned pro, making the cut on the number before launching himself into the victory spotlight. He finished strong, shooting a stunning 19-under-par with rounds of 64 in both the third and final rounds to clinch the title by a solid two shots.

A Historic Win

What makes Highsmith’s win even more remarkable is that he is the first player in nine years to take home a PGA Tour title after making the cut on the number. This showcased not just his grit but also his ability to perform under pressure. Golf enthusiasts from around the country were glued to their seats, watching this riveting competition unfold.

Equipment That Shined

Highsmith’s success on the course can’t be overlooked without mentioning the Titleist equipment that he relied on throughout the tournament. His arsenal included a Titleist GT3 driver set to 8 degrees featuring a Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 6.5 60g shaft. This powerful combination dominated the driving range, allowing him to rank 12th in strokes gained off-the-tee.

His fairway wood also reported for duty, as another Titleist GT3, set at 15 degrees with a Project X HZRDUS Smoke Yellow 6.5 70 TX shaft. This piece of equipment helped him reach those critical second shots and keep the momentum rolling.

Iron Play & Wedges

When it came to iron play, Highsmith used Titleist T200 irons for the 2-iron and Titleist T100 irons for the 4-9 range. The shafts used were the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 80HY 6.5 for T200 and Project X LS 6.5 for the T100, showcasing a blend of precision and performance.

Wedge game matters, too, and Highsmith had the Titleist Vokey Design SM10 wedges in lofts of 46, 50, 54, and 58 degrees. This lineup included True Temper AMT Tour White shafts for the 46-54 lofts while the 58-degree featured the True Temper Dynamic Golf S300 shaft.

Putting Like a Pro

Highsmith’s putting stood out as he employed a Scotty Cameron 009M tour prototype. Making over 200 feet of putts over the weekend, he ranked seventh in strokes gained putting and third in putts per GIR (Greens in Regulation), proving that his short game was just as strong as his long game. Key moments included significant birdie putts: an impressive 18-footer at the fourth hole and another 18-footer at the 11th, plus a crucial 15-footer at the 13th. It was clear that his putter was hot!

Highsmith’s proficiency in executing an up-and-down for par from behind the green on the 14th hole with his Vokey SM10 wedge was a testament to his skill and poise throughout the tournament. His performance was a display of solid driving, a reliable short game, and effective putting all rolled into one exhilarating package.

Looking Ahead

With this remarkable victory, Highsmith not only takes home a trophy but also gains a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly serve him well in future tournaments. His consistent performance showcases his potential as a rising star in the PGA Tour, and enthusiasts can expect more great things from him as the season continues.
