DeLand, Florida – A Thrilling Day at the Dixie Amateur Golf Tournament

In a whirlwind of swings and putts, Jenna Tuttle from Florida seized the spotlight at the Dixie Amateur Golf Tournament, leading the pack by a single shot at even par. Tuttle’s round was nothing short of electrifying, highlighted by a spectacular hole-in-one on hole No. 14, where she holed her approach shot for an eagle on the par-4 hole. Talk about a show-stopping moment!

With a mix of brilliance and a few bumps in the road, Tuttle recorded two birdies and two bogeys during her round. Her impressive journey through the tournament has seen her carding rounds of 74, 72, and 70, bringing her to that coveted even-par mark. Her consistent performance is a testament to her skill on the course.

Chasing the Leader

Hot on Tuttle’s heels is Isaki Sakashita from Deland, Florida, who stands in solo second place at 1-over par. Sakashita has been making moves with rounds of 76, 71, and another 70, keeping the pressure on Tuttle. Following closely behind are Faith Choi from Frederick, Maryland, and Ava Bunker from Edinburgh, Indiana, both tied for third place at 2-over par. The competition is heating up as the final rounds approach!

It’s worth noting the former 36-hole leader, Avery McCrery, a Duke commit, has found herself tied for eighth place after a tough round of 76, now sitting at 5-over par. Golf can be such an emotional rollercoaster!

Tuttle’s Impressive Resume

But who is Jenna Tuttle, you ask? Prior to stepping onto the greens of Florida, she made quite a name for herself. Tuttle qualified for seven USGA events and is a two-time Florida High School State Team Champion. She boasts three wins from the AJGA and an impressive six-time champion in the Florida Junior Tour. Not to mention she has three top-five finishes at the Florida Women’s Amateur. There’s a lot more to this rising star than meets the eye!

The History of the Dixie Amateur

The Dixie Amateur has a rich history, dating back to 1924 when it was initially played at the old Miami Country Club. This tournament has been a launching pad for many talented players over the decades. Some early winners include golf legends such as Frank Stafaci and Doug Ford, a future Masters Champion!

After a hiatus when Miami Golf Club closed in 1953, the tournament found its way back to the greens in 1962. Since then, it has been played at various courses across South Florida, each time attracting a robust lineup of amateur talent. Players like Andy Bean, Bruce Fleisher, and even Jesper Parnevik have claimed titles here, paving their ways to the PGA Tour.

Advancements and New Divisions

The tournament shifted to the Bonaventure Resort in 1990, further expanding its reach by being held in December, which has allowed more collegiate golfers to participate. In 1997, the Dixie embraced senior players by adding a senior division, increasing its diversity and attracting skilled golfers aged 55 and older.

The women’s division was introduced in 2002, quickly becoming a coveted title among rising talent. The inaugural winner, Meaghan Francella, edged out now-LPGA superstar Paula Creamer. And let’s not forget Lexi Thompson, who took home the title in 2007, going on to make headlines with her record-breaking performances in professional tournaments.

Onward at the Dixie!

As the Dixie Amateur continues, all eyes will be on Tuttle and her rivals. The energy is palpable, and it’s clear that the next rounds will bring even more excitement. Who will claim the ultimate prize in this storied tournament? We will just have to wait and see!
