With both players at 2 under par when darkness halted play, the excitement for the tournament builds. Eugenio Chacarra leads after a remarkable 4-under 68. Despite fog delays and incomplete rounds, the event promises to be a historic moment for golf in India, attracting a star-studded field and thousands of spectators.
The excitement was palpable as the inaugural International Series India kicked off, featuring two star players, Bryson DeChambeau and Joaquin Niemann, captains of Crushers GC and Torque GC, respectively. Both players got off to a fantastic start in Round 1, each sitting at 2 under par through 16 holes when the day was unfortunately cut short by darkness. This tournament is set to be a grand affair, marking the beginning of the 2025 International Series with a total of 10 events lined up on the Asian Tour.
As the shadows grew long on the fairways, Eugenio Chacarra took the clubhouse lead with a remarkable score of 4-under 68. His performance was nothing short of spectacular, especially on the back nine, where he scored an impressive 6-under 30, featuring a dazzling eagle. Fans are eager to see if he can maintain this momentum in the rounds to come. Meanwhile, Kazuki Higa also made a splash, sitting at 4 under with just 15 holes completed when play was halted.
It wasn’t smooth sailing for everyone, as fog delayed the start of play for about an hour. This caused a bit of chaos for 42 players who couldn’t finish their rounds before darkness set in. In spite of the hiccup, talented players like Carlos Ortiz and Charlie Lindh found their rhythm, finishing their rounds at 1-under 71. It was a tough pill to swallow for Ortiz, whose double bogey on the 17th hole diminished an otherwise solid performance.
The tournament is being played at the DLF Golf and Country Club, a course renowned for being one of the most challenging in the region. Players are putting their skills to the test as they navigate the tricky design. Danthai Boonma, showing off his recent prowess from the Smart Infinity Philippine Open, finished with a strong 2-under 70.
This tournament also marks Bryson DeChambeau’s debut in India. He has openly expressed his passion for the development of golf in the country. Earlier this week, he took a moment to soak in the culture by visiting the iconic Taj Mahal, which left a lasting impression on him. His utmost goal during this event is to inspire the next generation of golfers in India with his style and approach.
The field features a star-studded lineup, including prominent names like Anirban Lahiri and Paul Casey, adding to the excitement surrounding this inaugural event. DeChambeau mentioned extensively preparing for this tournament by diligently practicing and analyzing his game mechanics, indicating how seriously he takes the sport. With over 10,000 spectators expected over the four days, the atmosphere promises to be electric as golf enthusiasts come together to witness this landmark occasion.
This event is particularly significant as it marks the first time a reigning major winner has visited since Peter Thompson in 1966. DeChambeau’s presence has drawn comparisons to golf legends like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, as peers recognize his impact on the sport.
As the sun sets, and the first round comes to a close, all eyes will be on the players as they continue the competition, excited for who will take home the inaugural title at the International Series India.
