Horry, Georgetown Co. High Schoolers Win Contest to Exhibit Art at MYR Airport

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Five high school students from the Horry and Georgetown County school systems will have their art displayed for travelers at the Myrtle Beach International Airport after winning the annual Student Art Contest.

Art Celebrating South Carolina’s Ecology

This year, twenty pieces were submitted from six schools across the two counties, all following the theme of celebrating the diverse ecology of South Carolina. The winners were chosen through a popular vote on social media and will receive a cash prize along with having their artwork showcased at the airport.

First-Place Winner

The first-place award went to Miley Watts, a student from Socastee High School, for her piece titled “Carolina Wren with Yellow Jasmine.”

Other Recognitions

Additionally, Rylee O’Leary from the Academy for the Arts, Science & Technology won for the artwork “Otterly,” while Arella Elmore from North Myrtle Beach High was awarded for “Coastal Turtle.” Honorable mentions were given to Rylie Rhodes of St. James High for “Colors of a Myrtle Beach Morning” and Ellyn Fox of Waccamaw High for “Brookgreen’s Entrance.”

Award Ceremony

The airport hosted an award ceremony where Miley Watts accepted her prize and recognition. The event celebrated the talents of these high school artists and highlighted their contributions to the airport’s ambiance.
