Horry County Schools Ranked for 2021-22: Insights from Newly Released Report Cards

Conway, South Carolina – In a significant development regarding education performance, the South Carolina Board of Education has unveiled the latest school ratings for Horry County. This marks the first rankings since 2019, providing a vital snapshot of the district’s educational landscape. Each high school, middle school, and elementary school was evaluated using a 100-point scale and categorized into one of five designations: Excellent, Good, Average, Below Average, and Unsatisfactory.

According to the press release, around 20.6% of schools statewide achieved an Excellent rating, reflecting no significant changes from the previous assessment in 2019. Leading the pack, several schools in Horry County earned an Excellent rating. Highlights include:

  • Aynor High School: 71
  • HCS Early College High School: 82
  • St. James High School: 69
  • Myrtle Beach Middle School: 56
  • Socastee Middle School: 65
  • Carolina Forest Elementary School: 62
  • Ocean Bay Elementary School: 70

On the other hand, several schools were designated as Good, including:

  • Carolina Forest High School: 64
  • North Myrtle Beach High School: 64
  • Socastee High School: 64
  • Burgess Elementary School: 56

Some schools received an Average rating, such as:

  • Conway High School: 57
  • Myrtle Beach High School: 56
  • Aynor Middle School: 46

Concerns arose for those schools categorized as Below Average, which included:

  • Academy of Hope (Elementary): 36
  • Palmetto Academy of Learning and Success (Elementary): 40
