A devastating fire swept across parts of Horry County, expanding to over 100 acres before finally being contained, officials stated on Wednesday. The inferno started off in the area of Buffkin Road and Church Road, rapidly engulfing the surrounding region.
Several firefighting agencies rushed to the scene after Horry County fire rescue a reported a large wildland fire around 1:45 p.m. The fire, in its initial phase, blazed through approximately 20 acres. The South Carolina Forestry Commission, North Carolina Forest Service, Fair Bluff Fire and Rescue, Tabor City Fire Department, and Loris Fire Department joined the effort to combat the escalating disaster.
With united efforts, by Thursday afternoon, the fire had expanded to 111 acres but was successfully contained. The firefighters are continuing to monitor the area, and residents nearby might still notice some smoke.
The local population has been advised to stay aware and alert regarding any updates from the fire and rescue services.
