Sponsor Our ArticlesCONWAY, SC – Controversy arises at PALM Charter High School as its board of directors agree to employ a third-party investigator to probe into alleged misconduct by Principal Avery Moore. Moore currently remains on paid administrative leave and is not permitted on school premises due to unspecified misconduct allegations arising from an offsite school trip.
While the board convened for an emergency meeting last week, no conclusive decisions were divulged following the executive session. Many parents of the school body have voiced their discontent regarding the board’s transparency in handling the matter.
“Our children attend this school to receive quality education and wholesome support, and yet we feel left in the dark. We deserve clear answers,” bemoaned Tabatha Trussell, a parent representative. Another parent during public comments described the board’s silence as a disservice to the students.
However, the board maintains that their limited disclosure is due to a non-disclosure agreement in place involving personnel matters.
Avery Moore, who has served as the esteemed principal for the past seven years, is hailed as a fixture among the school community. The prohibition of Moore from school grounds has been particularly disappointing for parents and students alike, heightened by the anticipation of the upcoming graduation ceremony on Thursday.
Teresa Clardy, a parent of one of the graduates, hoped to see Moore share the monumental milestone with the students. “After guiding these students from their freshman year, his absence at the graduation ceremony will leave a void. Mr. Moore’s dedication to this position is hard to match,” she expressed.
While parents and students grapple with uncertainty, the board stays awaiting legal counsel’s recommendations for a suitable third-party investigator. The timeline for the investigation process remains unknown.
The charter school board, fellow faculty, parents, and students are closely monitoring the situation. The entire school community awaits clarity and resolution of an incident that has clouded the otherwise joyful atmosphere typical of an approaching graduation.
