Sweet Holiday Spirit Takes Over Surfside Beach

Surfside Beach, S.C. is buzzing with excitement this holiday season, thanks to a delightful event that sweetened up the community’s festive spirit. Gretel’s Candy House, a charming local candy shop, recently hosted a gingerbread decorating contest that left both kids and adults grinning from ear to ear!

A Touch of Creativity and Giving Back

On a sunny Sunday, families gathered at Gretel’s Candy House, eager to showcase their creative skills in the art of gingerbread construction. With a modest $15 entry fee, participants received all the necessary ingredients and materials to build their own colorful gingerbread masterpieces. But that’s not all—every penny made from the entry fees went directly to Toys for Tots, a fantastic organization dedicated to bringing smiles to children in need during the holiday season.

Shirrie Shamah, the Operations Manager at Gretel’s Candy House, shared her perspective on the event, stating, “We’re doing a Gingerbread decorating contest. Kinda just to give back to the community, have them here decorating a gingerbread house at the local gingerbread candy store in Myrtle Beach. You know just something for kids to do also and to give back to kids that need toys for the holidays.” Her words echoed the sentiment of many who attended—the event was about more than just cookies and icing; it was an opportunity to spread joy and kindness.

Cookie-Crazed Fun!

As participants diligently crafted their gingerbread homes, the enticing aroma of freshly baked Christmas cookies wafted through the air, tempting taste buds and adding to the holiday cheer. Friends and family enjoyed munching on these treats while cheering on the creative endeavors of the budding bakers. It was an atmosphere filled with laughter, creativity, and a little sprinkle of competition, as everyone put their best (or sweetest) foot forward.

For many children, dipping a finger into the frosting or adding colorful candies on their gingerbread houses brought pure happiness. Whether it was a candy cane chimney or a gumdrop garden, each creation was unique, reflecting the personality and imagination of its builder.

Sparking Community Spirit

Events like this truly help to unite communities, all while bringing a seasonal twist. The local town of Surfside Beach could feel the warmth and sense of camaraderie as families gathered to partake in a joyful activity that significantly impacts those less fortunate. In these challenging times, finding ways to connect and give back can really brighten the holidays.

The gingerbread decorating contest at Gretel’s Candy House was not only a fun-filled event but also served a greater purpose. By raising funds for Toys for Tots, the candy shop was able to aid children who might not have gifts under the tree this season.

As families left the event with smiles, full bellies, and bags of gingerbread goodies, they carried with them the spirit of giving, a reminder that the holiday season is not just about receiving gifts but also about helping others.

So, here’s to the magic of the holidays, the joy of creativity, and a big shoutout to local businesses that go the extra mile to bring cheer through sweet, sugary fun! Surfside Beach has shown that it takes a village—and a touch of frosting—to create unforgettable holiday memories.
