Horry County School Board (HCSB) recently shared some informative statistics and data regarding the innovative Open Gate Security System. Initial figures suggest a drastic decrease in the number of fully searched bags at Carolina Forest Schools: the figure dropped from 350 on the first day down to a mere 30-40 thereafter.

“The deployment of the new Open Gate detectors was scheduled over a period of nine months. However, anticipating the need for increased security, the process was expedited, completing in less than four months, ahead of the new academic session,” stated Frederick. Additionally, he highlighted the consistent improvements day after day regarding the flow rate and remarkably lower false alerts.

Parents and School Officials Praise the New System

Parents like David Warner expressed satisfaction with the operational effectiveness of the new detectors. “Seeing the systems in action and experiencing the swift procedures firsthand during the drop-off times was immensely reassuring,” said Warner.

On the other hand, Horry County Schools Public Information Officer Lisa Bourcier acknowledged the adaptability challenges presented by the new tech but voiced her optimism about the smoother transition compared to the previous traditional metal detectors. She mentioned, “Over 48,000 students now move through the new metal detectors daily within a span of just 40 minutes before the school day commences.”
