Sponsor Our ArticlesIf you’ve been wandering around Conway, S.C., you probably noticed that the city has donned its best Halloween attire. Streets decked out in pumpkins, cobwebs, and eerie lights have transformed the town into a what some are lovingly calling the “City of Halloween.” With all this spooky spirit, local businesses are not just surviving; they’re thriving!
This weekend is bursting with fun activities to get you in the Halloween mood. If you’re looking for some outdoor entertainment, you won’t want to miss the Halloween movie night on Friday, followed by a ghost walk that promises some spine-tingling fun. Not to mention, there’s a trunk or treat event in partnership with CCU, and for those who fancy a bit of aquatic adventure, you can hop on the Halloween boat tours.
The excitement in Downtown Conway has business owners grinning from ear to ear. Corey Russell, the manager at Trestle, shared, “It’s got a lot of history. It’s beautiful. The way they’ve decorated the town is absolutely amazing. We’ve seen much more foot traffic around the city; the increase in customers has definitely boosted sales.” Sounds like a win-win for Conway’s economy!
Emily Smith, who runs Good Day Sunshine, a shop replete with handmade items and local art, couldn’t agree more. She’s even ramped up her hours to keep up with the booming foot traffic. “We’ve seen about a fourfold increase in foot traffic since October,” she exclaimed. “We’re now open late and even on Sundays to cater to the crowd. It’s honestly incredible how many visitors we’re getting from as far as Alaska and California, just to take in the decorations!”
But it’s not just visitors from far-flung places; locals are soaking in all the Halloween fun too! One Conway resident, Megan, who often walks the streets with her daughter, shared how lovely it is to bond over the Halloween decorations. “We come down at least a few times a week just to see everything. She loves the Tunnel of Bones,” said Megan, a big smile on her face. It seems this Halloween magic is bringing families together!
Curious just how many more people are flocking to Conway lately? The city recently reported around 20,000 visitors in just one week! June Wood, the Public Information Officer for Conway, said, “This increase in foot traffic means that families are dining in our restaurants, shopping in our stores, and generally supporting our local economy, which is exactly what this is all about.”
So, with all this Halloween pizzazz, you might wonder how it all gets funded. Well, you’ll be happy to know that these fabulous decorations are covered by the hospitality fee collected from local businesses, meaning no tax dollars have been used. That ensures our city can continue to offer this delightful celebration without putting a strain on local taxes.
As if that wasn’t enough to get you in the Halloween spirit, Saturday will see the Halloween Hustle with a 10K and 5K race, along with a fun one-mile run. And let’s not forget about the Halloween golf cart parade that promises to bring the laughs and cheers!
So whether you’re a local or just visiting, pop on over to Conway to enjoy the spooky festivities and support our local businesses! 🎃
