Sponsor Our ArticlesIn a heartwarming celebration of community spirit, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County has recently received a significant honor that highlights its tireless efforts to improve the lives of local families. This Myrtle Beach-based nonprofit has been awarded the Secretary of State’s Angel Award, recognizing its remarkable contributions towards the well-being of South Carolinians.
Since its inception in 1990, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County has made a lasting impact, providing homes for 170 families over the years. In just the past year, they completed five new homes, showcasing their ongoing commitment to making homeownership a reality for hardworking families in the area. It’s not just about building houses; it’s about building communities and nurturing families.
But their outreach doesn’t stop at state lines. In addition to their local projects, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County also played a part on the international stage by contributing $27,000 to support Habitat’s efforts in the Dominican Republic. This shows a deep commitment not just to their local families but to families in need around the world.
So, what exactly is the Angel Award? Each year, only ten charities in South Carolina are given this honor, recognizing their significant contributions to the community. To be considered, charities must meet certain criteria that includes using at least 80% of their contributions for program services and demonstrating financial transparency. They also have to comply with the state’s Solicitation of Charitable Funds Act. It’s a badge of honor that shows not only the organization’s dedication but also its integrity and transparency in handling funds.
On November 20, representatives from Habitat for Humanity of Horry County were officially presented with the Angel Award in Columbia. In a statement following the event, board president Sarah Moniz expressed her pride in the organization’s legacy of “exceptional governance and stewardship.” She remarked, “Our board and administration continue to expand what is possible to designate resources effectively to serve hardworking Horry County families in need of access to homeownership and housing solutions.”
This award shines a spotlight on the importance of community support for local charities. Habitat for Humanity relies on donations and volunteers to keep their mission going strong. Each contribution helps them not only build houses but also build hope and opportunity for families dreaming of a place to call home.
For those looking to get involved, there are various ways to support Habitat for Humanity of Horry County. Whether through volunteering your time, donating resources, or simply spreading the word about their incredible work, every little bit helps continue their mission.
The award serves as a motivating factor for Habitat for Humanity to continue its important work in Horry County and beyond. With ambitious plans for the future and a steadfast commitment to serving families across the globe, the organization is well-positioned to keep making a significant impact in the lives of those they serve.
As we celebrate their achievements, it’s also a reminder that the spirit of kindness and community support is what fuels these organizations. Kudos to Habitat for Humanity of Horry County on this well-deserved recognition!
