Sponsor Our ArticlesAs grocery prices continue to rise across the United States, Myrtle Beach grapples with escalating costs, particularly in staple items like eggs. A study highlights local prices at major grocery stores. However, the upcoming opening of BJ’s Wholesale Club on February 28, 2025, aims to provide residents with an affordable shopping alternative. The new club promises significant savings, a gas station, and employment opportunities, offering hope amid economic challenges.
In the sunny shores of MYRTLE BEACH, grocery shopping is about to get a little more interesting. Locals already have several options when it comes to filling up their carts—be it big grocery chains, cozy local stores, or vibrant seasonal farmers’ markets. However, it seems everyone in the grocery industry is feeling the pinch, as prices continue to rise across the nation and in our coastal paradise.
Did you know that, as of January 2025, grocery prices in the U.S. climbed about 2% compared to January 2024? That’s right—getting those staple items is becoming a little more costly. And according to the experts at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), grocery prices are expected to surge more than 3% throughout 2025. This year, certain beloved products, especially eggs, are in the spotlight for their anticipated increases.
This past January, the average price of eggs hit a staggering $3.65 per dozen, with projections suggesting that they could soar by as much as 41% this year. Yikes! Grocery bills seem to be swelling in all corners of the country, which is likely leaving many shoppers wondering how to stretch their dollars further.
To help residents navigate the rising prices in our beautiful community, a recent study took a close look at prices in major local grocery stores, specifically Food Lion, Publix, and Walmart. The analysis was completed without the influence of special promotions, so shoppers could see the true cost of their groceries. For those curious, Food Lion can be found at 7631 N. Kings Highway, Publix is located at 7925 N. Kings Highway, and Walmart Supercenter is just a hop away at 10820 Kings Road.
The economic scene can be a bit murky, too, as data shows rising inflation slowed down towards the end of 2024. However, costs for goods and services remained elevated, with an increase of 2.7% from the previous year. Grocery prices actually saw a rise of 0.5% from October to November 2024, although some items like cereal and baked goodsexperienced a decrease of 1.1%. Coupled with the price hikes in housing that grew around 5%, it’s no wonder many consumers are feeling a financial squeeze.
In a bid to help alleviate these economic worries, the much-anticipated BJ’s Wholesale Club is gearing up to open its doors in Myrtle Beach! Set to launch on February 28, 2025, this new location at 136 Las Palmas Drive could provide residents with an answer to rising grocery costs. Not only will BJ’s feature a gas station boasting low fuel prices, but the BJ’s Fuel Saver Program also offers unique savings for drivers.
Shoppers can expect to save up to 25% on grocery prices at BJ’s as they unveil a range of products from fresh produce to household essentials. Moreover, this new grocery outlet is teaming up with the Lowcountry Food Bank to donate food weekly, helping feed local families who are facing tough times.
If you’re excited about the deals to be had, joining BJ’s will be easy! There are two membership options available—a $35 Club Card Membership and a $80 Club+ Card Membership, with the latter offering extra perks. With plans for services like curbside pickup, same-day delivery, and an app to help you navigate the store, BJ’s is really making grocery shopping easier and more accessible.
Moreover, BJ’s aims to create over 100 full- and part-time jobs in the community, with applications being accepted now. Their arrival is a bright spot in a time when residents might feel the weight of rising expenses.
So, whether you’re stocking up on essentials or looking for some savings, keep an eye out for the grand opening of BJ’s in Myrtle Beach! With all these changes happening, it looks like the local grocery scene is about to get a significant boost!
