Myrtle Beach’s 33rd Annual Greek Festival Draws Record Crowds with Food, Music, and Community Spirit

Myrtle Beach Celebrates the 33rd Annual Greek Festival

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The vibrant city of Myrtle Beach recently wrapped up its beloved Greek Festival, an event that’s become synonymous with fall fun and community spirit for over three decades. The 33rd Greek Festival saw record-breaking attendance this year, and it was a weekend filled with laughter, music, and, of course, mouthwatering food!

Deane Morris, the vice president of the St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church’s parish council, shared his joy at the festival’s success. “I think that means we’re getting better at it,” he said with a smile. And who wouldn’t agree? With a delightful spread of deliciousness, including handmade gyros and other Greek specialties, how could it not attract a crowd?

Celebration Highlights

The three-day affair, which wrapped up around 7 p.m. on Sunday, was not just a place to satisfy your cravings but also a hub for local artisans and kid-friendly activities. Families gathered to laugh and create memories, all while soaking in the festive atmosphere filled with traditional music and dances.

“We are just so elated that people support us the way that we do,” Morris continued, recognizing the festival’s crucial role in the community. “It’s the way our church survives.” The funds raised from the festival help support their operations, averaging about a stunning $300,000 annually.

A Special Donation

What’s even more heartwarming is that this year, all proceeds from entrance fees were graciously donated to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Asheville. This church unfortunately had to cancel its festival due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene, and the Myrtle Beach community stepped up, showing just how connected these churches and their followers are, even from miles away.

The festival was a true testament to the spirit of giving and the bonds formed within the Greek community and beyond. Visitors from all walks of life came together to enjoy this cultural extravaganza, demonstrating that Myrtle Beach is more than just a coastal getaway; it’s a thriving community where traditions flourish.

What’s Next?

As the dust settles from this year’s festivities, many are already looking forward to 2025 and what it holds in store for the Greek Festival. Each year, new ideas are brainstormed, and improvements are made to keep things fresh and exciting for attendees. “We’re excited to see how we can make next year even better,” Morris adds, reflecting the enthusiasm that drives this event.

The Greek Festival has become a patchwork of Myrtle Beach’s cultural fabric, an event where food enthusiasts, families, and friends come together, not just to enjoy a weekend of festivities, but to support one another in incredible ways. So whether you’re a local or a visitor, mark your calendars for next year’s event, and get ready to indulge in some fabulous Greek cuisine, vibrant music, and plenty of community fun!

If you missed it this year, don’t fret! There’s always next October to look forward to, and who knows what delightful surprises await? Until then, let’s keep the local spirit alive and continue supporting our wonderful community!
