This Saturday, the lovely city of Myrtle Beach will host its annual Grand Strand Walk to End Alzheimer’s. It’s a fun and meaningful event where locals come together to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. The Grand Park in Market Common will be buzzing with energy as hundreds of walkers don their best purple outfits and carry colorful flowers to show their support.
If you’re interested in joining us, it’s super easy! You can register for free online in advance or swing by the walk booth located along Farrow Parkway at the Grand Lake Bridge to sign up on the morning of the event. Whether you’re an early bird or want to join us last minute, we’ll be excited to see you!
The day is packed with exciting activities! The festivities kick off with a DJ dance party starting at 10 a.m. so prepare to get your groove on and enjoy some great tunes. At 10:45 a.m., the opening ceremony will take place and will be a fantastic way to bring everyone together before we hit the trail!
Then, at 11 a.m., we’ll all take a scenic one-mile walk around the beautiful Grand Park. It’s a perfect chance to soak in the sights while supporting individuals affected by Alzheimer’s. And don’t worry, you won’t be walking alone — the crowd will be full of your friendly neighbors and fellow supporters!
Expect some fun surprises during the pre-walk festivities! The well-known ABC15’s Chief Meteorologist, Ed Piotrowski, will join us to get everyone pumped up along with Miss Myrtle Beach and our beloved local mascots, Chauncey and Splash. Complimentary flower wheel spinners will be handed out too, adding a splash of color to the event along with valuable information and resources about the Alzheimer’s Association and its local services and research.
This event isn’t just for fun. It carries a deep purpose. While it’s completely free to participate, the Grand Strand Walk has already raised almost 90% of its remarkable goal of $280,000 this year through donations. Your participation means more funding for research and local support services, making a real difference in the lives of those affected by this disease.
Participants are encouraged to dress up in purple and carry signs that represent their connection to this cause. It’s a great way to show everyone what this fight means to you and showcase our community’s strength and spirit. There’s no age restriction, so bring the whole family along — the more, the merrier!
So, mark your calendars for this Saturday, and let’s show our support for a great cause in Myrtle Beach. With a fun atmosphere, awesome activities, and the warmth of community, it promises to be a fantastic day out while bringing light to Alzheimer’s awareness.
Join us, have fun, and let’s walk together to end Alzheimer’s!
