Golfing Extravaganza in Myrtle Beach: A Golfer’s Paradise

Have you ever been to Myrtle Beach? If you haven’t, you’re missing out on a treasure trove of amazing golf courses, stunning views, and an experience filled with smiles and warmth from locals. Known for its lovely shoreline, Myrtle Beach isn’t just a haven for sunbathers and beachgoers. It’s also a golfer’s paradise, and this year, the Grand Strand is abuzz with excitement over some incredible new golfing experiences.

A Blast from the Past

First, let’s take a trip down memory lane. Picture this: the mid-1980s. My very first golfing adventure here was at a course called Gator Hole. I can barely recall a thing, but that’s part of the charm of Myrtle Beach. It’s a place that keeps bringing people back, especially with the buzzing golf scene. After years of visiting, I have taken pleasure in the variety offered, playing a different course each time, and I’ve seen some amazing designs along the way.

Golf Course Highlights from 2024

Fast forward to 2024, and the excitement ramps up with the introduction of four brand new courses, two of which can be found at the luxurious Barefoot Resort. Golf enthusiasts are especially eager to experience the Barefoot property, home to esteemed architects like Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Davis Love III, and Greg Norman. Each brings their distinct style to the table, offering golfers a thrilling challenge.

My recent escapade involved teeing off at the Barefoot Dye and Barefoot Fazio courses, and let’s just say, they didn’t disappoint! With an added bonus, my nephew made his way to Myrtle Beach early and played four courses that I had yet to experience. His thoughts blend in nicely with mine, giving you a total of eight courses to consider for your next golf outing.

Fore Courses to Remember

Let’s dive into the courses that make Myrtle Beach a top golfing destination. First up, the Barefoot Dye course. Did you know that Pete Dye learned a thing or two from his trips to the UK? The course takes you through undulating pathways and challenging visual deceptions, all while allowing you to appreciate the beautiful coastal winds. If there’s one rule to follow while playing here, it’s to aim wisely! Don’t let the beautiful sights lead you astray; each shot counts.

Next, we have the TPC-Myrtle Beach, designed by none other than Tom Fazio. It’s set up like a tour-level golf experience, bringing the elegance of top tournaments right to your fingertips. With two beautiful par-three holes resembling the renowned 16th at Augusta, you know this course is going to be a memorable journey. Plus, the meticulous bunkering gives you plenty to think about as you strategize your game.

Playing the back-to-back Fazio-designed courses allows for an incredible contrast. The Barefoot Fazio course takes on an entirely different feel. Stepping onto hole 13, you can sense the tribute to the famed Pine Valley course. Whether it’s an easy stroll or a gripping challenge, there’s something for everyone here.

Concluding with Pawley’s Plantation

Then we arrive at Pawley’s Plantation, where the Jack Nicklaus design rejuvenated its greens after some much-needed TLC. Here, you’re amidst the low country splendor and wetlands, with a spectacular view of the marshlands. The closing holes are something to remember, with the Atlantic winds adding an extra challenge to your game.

Wrapping Up with Bonus Coverage

For those who are eagerly looking to explore even more, don’t overlook courses like Arrowhead, Myrtlewood, and King’s North. Each course provides its particular flair, promising endless entertainment for golfers of all skill levels.

With its vibrant atmosphere and impressive range of courses, Myrtle Beach remains a top pick for golf enthusiasts. Whether you’re challenged by winds, strategic hazards, or sheer beauty, there’s always something to draw you back. So why not plan a trip? You won’t regret it!
