Exciting Renovations Transforming Golf Courses in the Grand Strand!

The Grand Strand is buzzing with excitement as several golf courses undergo impressive renovations this winter. From the scenic views of Shallotte, NC, to the vibrant greens of Sunset Beach, golf enthusiasts can expect **breathtaking improvements** in their favorite playing spots. Let’s dive into what you can expect as some beloved courses take this opportunity to spruce things up!

Rivers Edge Golf Club Gets a Makeover

At the Rivers Edge Golf Club, the back nine has been temporarily closed for essential renovations. However, don’t fret! Head pro Dan Miller reassures us that the entire back nine should be back in action by the end of December. Plus, you might even get to play at least eight of those holes as soon as next week!

This makeover includes significant work on the wooden bulkheads on holes 9, 15, and 18. A particularly notable change is happening on the stunning 200-yard par-3 15th hole, where artificial mats are being replaced with beautiful natural grass. The tee box has faced severe erosion, but it’s being rebuilt with durable TifTuf Bermuda, ensuring golfers have the best possible experience.

Once the back nine reopens, the popular par-5 ninth will close again for its own bulkhead improvements. Meanwhile, golfers have been enjoying the front nine at discounted rates. Miller predicts that it’s quite possible to have all 16 holes open while the work continues on the 9th and 15th – now that’s what we call a win-win!

Maples Course at Sea Trail Golf Resort Shines Bright

Not too far away, the Maples Course at the Sea Trail Golf Resort in Sunset Beach is currently closed for some fantastic enhancements. As part of a multi-million dollar transformation, the Maples Course is set to undergo extensive upgrades for optimal playing conditions. This renovation includes tree removal and overseeding of tees, fairways, and green surrounds.

Expect the course to reopen shortly after New Year’s Eve, just in time for that spring golf season. However, don’t get too comfy! The Maples Course is scheduled to close again this upcoming summer for a major changeover on the greens to an ultradwarf Bermudagrass. Let’s just say that the course is going through a **glow-up**!

Tidewater Golf Club’s Bunker Revolution

At Tidewater Golf Club, a significant bunker renovation is underway. General manager Chris Cooper shares that seven holes are already complete, with the project running smoothly and expected to continue into mid-February. The exciting part? The course will remain open during this time!

To modernize the course, the team is reshaping and remodeling bunkers for better drainage and new sand. Did we mention that about one-third of the fairway bunkers are being removed? This means better flow and improved player experience. Greenside bunkers will also see changes, making the course not just beautiful but also more enjoyable to play on.

International Club of Myrtle Beach Revamps Dining Experience

Finally, at the International Club of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, the golf experience is complemented by the recently opened restaurant and bar named The Venue. Featuring craft cocktails and an expanded food menu, golfers can now sit back, relax, and enjoy a delicious meal after a long day on the green. While it’s currently operating with limited hours, plans for extended hours and a full dinner menu are on the horizon.

The Venue is just one part of a significant clubhouse renovation completed this year, alongside facilities upgrades like new cart paths and bridges that enhance the overall golfing experience.

With all of these improvements lining up in the Grand Strand, it’s safe to say that golf enthusiasts are in for some thrilling experiences in 2024. So, grab your clubs, and get ready to tee off on some of the best courses our area has to offer!
