Shocking Golf Club Heist in Aynor! Thief Arrested After Stolen Odyssey Putters Incident

Shocking Golf Club Heist in Aynor!

Aynor, S.C. – What started off as a typical day at the Burning Ridge Golf Club quickly turned into a scene right out of a crime drama! A local man has been arrested after allegedly stealing over $1,500 worth of fancy Odyssey putters from the club’s pro shop. Buckle up as we delve into this eyebrow-raising incident!

The Arrival of Trouble

It all unfolded on a sunny December day when, at approximately 11:50 a.m., police were called to investigate a theft in the clubhouse. According to the police report, a suspicious character approached a staff member in the pro shop, asking, of all things, where the coveted putters could be found. Just moments later, this mystery person made a beeline for the coveted clubs!

The Great Escape

In a swift move that would make any movie thief proud, the suspect reportedly grabbed five Odyssey putters and dashed out of the clubhouse. But it didn’t end there! A sharp-eyed bystander, busy at the bag-drop area, noticed the ruckus and quickly stepped in to stop the fleeing thief.

High-Speed Drama Unfolds

In a moment of bravery, the bystander positioned themselves in front of a parked 2005 Ford F-150 that the suspect attempted to jump into to escape. This is where things really kicked into high gear! According to reports, the driver – identified as Joseph Wayne Holden, 54 – revved the engine, attempting to intimidate the bystander into moving aside. But that didn’t go as he planned!

In a bold move, the bystander reached through the driver’s window and threw a punch right at Holden’s face! What followed was a bizarre chase around the parking lot where Holden hit the gas while dragging the individual along. Talk about a serious case of needing to reevaluate your escape strategy!

Surviving the Ride

As you can imagine, the bystander soon realized that holding on could have serious consequences. Fearing for their life, they let go, sustaining only a minor elbow injury during the wild turn of events. Nevertheless, Holden managed to speed away from the scene, accompanied by three other passengers in the truck.

The Flock Cameras Come to the Rescue

Despite Holden’s attempt to flee, he wasn’t entirely off the hook. Thanks to a diligent golf course staff member who snapped a picture of the getaway vehicle, authorities were able to track him down. The details continued to unfold as the Flock safety cameras identified Holden’s truck as it made its way into nearby Georgetown County.

Arrest and Charges

Later that same day, around 5 p.m., authorities caught up with Holden and placed him under arrest. He faced some serious charges, including two counts of conspiracy and second-degree assault and battery. But wait, there’s more! While Holden was charged, authorities are still on the lookout for at least one other suspect believed to be involved in this brazen theft.

Back to the Drawing Board

Holden spent some time behind bars at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center but was able to post a $5,000 bond and was released just two days later. We’re still left wondering: what was going through his mind? And what about the other suspects in this golfing gone-wrong saga?

As this story continues to develop, we’re eagerly waiting to see how the situation unfolds for both Holden and the golf club. If you ever thought about pulling a heist at the local golf pro shop, think again! It seems being a thief isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
