What First Responders Want You to Know While Attending the Myrtle Beach Classic

A behind-the-scenes look at first responders’ preparations for the Myrtle Beach Classic

Providing Safety for All Attendees at the Myrtle Beach Classic

In Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as thousands of golf enthusiasts assemble for the Myrtle Beach Classic, local first responders are working diligently behind the scenes to ensure a memorable yet safe experience for all. A partnership between local police, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and the FBI is in place to provide maximum security throughout the event.

Law enforcement officials will be placed in strategic locations across the golf course, with heightened attention to busy areas like the fan zone and driving range. The primary purpose, according to HCPD Capt. Justin Wyatt, is not to enforce major rules or intrude, but rather ensure public safety and help when needed.

“We’re not here to harp on anybody,” stated Wyatt. “Our aim is to keep everyone safe while they enjoy our beautiful beach and the golf course. We are here for safety reasons, and if you need us, we will be there.”

Comprehensive Medical Support Arrangements

In collaboration with Grand Strand Health, comprehensive medical support is arranged with first-aid tents scattered around the golf course. These medical tents, placed near holes 3 and 18, are ready to provide medical support for cuts, bruises, or minor injuries. In case of emergencies like dehydration, heat exhaustion, or any major injuries, a field hospital is set up between the second and seventeenth holes.

Medical Advisory

Emergency doctor Casey Wilson reminded attendees to pack essential items and offered some helpful advice: “It’s really important to have water at hand at all times to stay hydrated. We also advise you to wear plenty of sunscreen to protect yourself from unnecessary burns. If anyone has minor scrapes, burns, bruises, or anything, we are here to help from large to small.”

He also mentioned that they got mule skin for blisters at the first-aid tents in case anyone forgot to wear comfortable shoes for walking around the golf course.

As the Myrtle Beach Classic golf tournament unfolds, these efforts by first responders ensure a seamless and safe experience for all attendees. Organizers ask patrons to remain vigilant, heed to any advice or instructions by officials, and enjoy the thrill that the first-ever PGA tour sunshine event brings to the Grand Strand.
