Lowcountry Firefighters Honored in Myrtle Beach

Induction into the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association Hall of Fame

COLUMBIA, S.C. – An evening of recognition and gratitude unfurled in Myrtle Beach during the annual Fire-Rescue Conference as two Lowcountry firefighters were inducted into the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association Hall of Fame. The honored firefighters, Kenneth “Kenny” Sott of Summerville Fire Department and Thomas Webb of Burton Fire District, were part of the prestigious group of nine firefighters from throughout the state who received this accolade.

Fire-Rescue Conference

The annual Fire-Rescue Conference, a flagship event of the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association, welcomes over 5,000 attendees. Featuring nearly 50 courses covering every aspect of firefighting, it represents the largest in-state training for firefighters.

New Leadership

The baton of organizational leadership was also passed during the conference as Randy Arant, the battalion chief of the Irmo Fire District, was sworn in as the 78th president of the organization. In his acceptance speech, Arant quoted James “J” Michael Muller, a late Irmo firefighter, “It’s an oath. It’s a commitment. So live it.” Muller, who was fondly remembered by Arant, succumbed in the line of duty on May 26, 2023. Arant concluded his inauguration with an acknowledgment of the 2024 award winners and hall of fame inductees.
