MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The sun shone brightly on a beautiful Saturday afternoon as the Myrtle Beach community gathered for a heartwarming tribute to Mica Miller, a woman whose life and tragic passing have sparked a critical conversation about domestic violence awareness and prevention. The event, aptly named Mica’s Benefit Concert, was held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Grand Park in The Market Common and managed to draw a big crowd of supporters eager to celebrate her legacy.
Visitors flocked to the park for more than just music; they were there to honor Mica’s love for her community, faith, and of course, music. With a full lineup of local bands and entertainment, families were treated to a delightful day. There was something for everyone, including a vibrant kids zone, exciting raffle giveaways, and a plethora of vendors and food trucks serving delicious bites.
Mica’s sister, Abigail Francis, shared her heartfelt emotions about the day. “I know that she would be so very excited to be here for all of this, so we are here standing for Mica and honoring her and everything that she did for this community. For so many people to be out here is just incredible,” she expressed, gratitude evident in her voice.
The concert became a significant platform to reflect on Mica’s life, especially following the controversy surrounding her untimely death. Mica was found dead in late April at Lumber River State Park in Robeson County, and her death was ultimately ruled a suicide. However, it raised eyebrows across the nation due to allegations that she had faced abuse by her husband, John-Paul Miller, before her passing.
Despite this heavy backdrop, the atmosphere at the concert was inspiring. Mica’s charity, Waymakers, was highlighted throughout the event, bringing further attention to a cause close to her heart. The Socastee High School band, which Mica attended, took to the stage, creating a nostalgic moment for many attendees.
According to Abigail, Mica strongly believed that “God is the one and only waymaker,” and the concert was a celebration of that faith. “We are out here showing that God makes a way for everything,” she said, evoking a sense of community and support among those present.
Mica’s best friend, Charlotte Korn, was equally moved by the event. “It’s just so encouraging, such a blessing to see all of the lives she has touched and how much she means to everybody,” she commented, her voice trembling with emotion. The turnout was impressive, and Charlotte noted, “They come out and support not just her, but the family and the cause; it’s been really amazing.”
This tribute wasn’t just about Mica; it was about raising awareness regarding domestic violence and providing resources for those who may find themselves in similar situations. The community’s support during the concert was a testament to the impact Mica had while she was alive and continues to have through the awareness she has generated after her passing.
Saturday’s festivities not only celebrated Mica’s memory but also underscored the importance of standing together against violence in any form and fostering open discussions about mental health. It was a day filled with music, love, and hope—a reminder that while Mica may no longer be with them, her spirit and message resonate within this tight-knit community.
