Myrtle Beach, you might want to pull out those cozy sweaters and warm socks because we’ve hit a cold snap that’s caught many of us off guard! Just this Wednesday and Thursday, residents woke up to a chilly surprise, with temperatures dropping about 15 degrees below what’s normal for this time of year. It’s not typical October weather, and the breezy conditions aren’t doing us any favors either!
According to those who keep a close eye on our weather, this cold front is here to stick around for a little while. Meteorologists are reporting that October has been cooler than usual, and we’re basically seeing a bout of frigid temperatures that just don’t want to leave. Thursday is shaping up with a high of only 65 degrees and a low dipping down to about 40 degrees. Yikes! And if you think that’s brisk, wait until you see Friday’s forecast, which mirrors Thursday with highs in the upper 60s and lows flirting with the mid-40s. Don’t forget to grab your hot cocoa!
Now, while we’re trying to stay warm, there’s a small chance that some areas of Horry County could see a little frost. Though the chances are slim and not everyone will experience it, you might want to keep a watchful eye on your plants if you’re still holding onto your garden. A little bit of cold can sneak up on you!
Believe it or not, Myrtle Beach hasn’t seen much rain lately — and it doesn’t look like there’s any in the forecast for at least another week or so. The area is on track to break records for the driest October we’ve experienced, making it a bit of a strange month all around. It seems like the sun is taking a break just as the temperatures drop.
If you’re planning on heading out this weekend to enjoy our beautiful beach (albeit cooler!) atmosphere, you might want to think about bundling up! Temperatures are expected to begin creeping back towards normal — think highs in the mid-70s. But until then, let’s make the most of it! Whether you decide to hit the local coffee shop for a warm drink or cozy up at home with a good book, there’s no shortage of ways to keep spirits high despite the chilly weather.
So, as we look ahead to the next week, it seems that we may finally see a bit of a rebound in temperatures! But for now, let’s just enjoy our gorgeous coastal town, even if we have to do it wrapped up in a snug jacket. Remember, winter hasn’t even officially started yet, and we’ve got plenty of sunshine to look forward to soon!
Stay warm, Myrtle Beach, and make sure you check in on your neighbors — after all, it’s community spirit that gets us through these chilly tides!
