Coastal Carolina University Expands Athletics Staff with New Key Roles

CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina University has announced the addition of several key individuals to its athletics staff, aiming to strengthen its programs and enhance the overall experience for student-athletes and fans alike. The new hires were announced on Thursday by Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation, Chance Miller.

Who Are the New Hires?

The athletics department welcomed a diverse group of professionals with expertise in various critical areas. This includes:

  • Andy Humes – Senior Deputy Athletics Director and Chief of Staff
  • Matt Harman – Chief Revenue Officer
  • Wyatt Hopper – Chief Development Officer of the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation
  • Patrick Osborne – Associate Athletic Director for Social Media and Brand Engagement
  • Rachel Sharpe – Assistant Athletic Director for Medical Services
  • Allie Jennerette – Development Specialist and Engagement Coordinator
  • Lena Schaeffner – General Manager at Altius Sports NIL

What Do These Changes Mean?

These new roles are designed to address essential functions such as revenue generation, fan engagement, and student-athlete wellness. Miller explained that after conducting an assessment of the department’s strengths and future needs since joining Coastal in July, it became clear that external talent was necessary to propel the athletic programs forward.

When Will Changes Take Effect?

The new athletics staff is expected to begin their work immediately, with efforts underway to implement improvements that will impact both student-athletes and fans. These changes come at a time when the NCAA environment is evolving, prompting the need for a strategic approach in athletics.

Why Are These Changes Important?

Miller stated that the additions will help Coastal Carolina tackle future opportunities effectively. “We have an outstanding team in place, but we needed to bring some external options in-house and combine some positions into higher-level expertise,” he remarked. The athletic programs aim to elevate their standing and performance in the competitive landscape of college sports.

A Glimpse at Upcoming Events

Coinciding with these staffing changes, the Coastal Carolina football team is gearing up for a significant matchup against Sun Belt rival Appalachian State on Thursday night. The game is set to kick off at 8 p.m., with ESPN’s “SportsCenter” showcasing the university’s campus earlier in the day.

Future Considerations

Looking ahead, the athletics department anticipates more strategic hires to support growth and further enhance the student-athlete experience. Miller’s vision encompasses a future where Coastal Carolina Athletics continues to thrive and adapt to the changing landscape of collegiate sports.

With the combination of experienced professionals and a proactive approach to future challenges, Coastal Carolina University appears poised to elevate its athletic programs to new heights.
